1 SCOPE

1.1 This Standard is based on API Spec 11B standard and defines additional requirements and standardizes shapes and dimensions of pumping rods - commonly known as sucker rods, which includes polished rods, pony rods and the respective couplings.

1.2 This Standard shall be applied for supplies beginning from its issue date.

1.3 This Standard contains Mandatory Requirements, only.

2 COMPLEMENTARY DOCUMENTS The following document is referenced in the text and contains valid rules for this Standard. API Spec 11B - Specification for Sucker Rods (Pony Rods, Polished Rods, Couplings and Subcouplings).

3 DEFINITIONS For the purpose of this Standard the following definitions are adopted:

3.1 Sucker Rod Rod with threaded ends for serial coupling, used for transmitting a driver action from the surface to a downhole pumping element.

3.2 Polished Rod Rod with threaded ends and polished surface, to allow sealing between the production wellhead and the outside environment.

3.3 Pony Rod Short sucker rod, used for adjusting the length of the rod string to the operational demands.

3.5 Subcoupling Coupling used for connecting rods of different diameters.

3.6 Polished Rod Coupling Coupling used for connecting a polished rod to the sucker rod string.

4 GENERAL CONDITIONS

4.1 Shape

4.1.1 The shape of the rods (sucker rod, pony rod and polished rod), as well as the shape of the couplings, shall be according to API Spec 11B standard.

4.1.2 The rods (sucker rod, pony rod and polished rod) shall be pin-to-pin type.

4.1.3 The couplings shall be internally threaded on both ends and two types can be used: full size or thin type, differing basically by their dimensional characteristics. They shall be selected according to API Spec 11B standard, based on the tubing column size.

4.2 Designation The rods (sucker rod, pony rod and polished rod), as well as the couplings, shall be designated according to PETROBRAS Material Description Standard (PMD).

5 SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

5.1 Terminology The terminology of the sucker rod and pony rod parts shall be designated in accordance with FIGURE A-1 of ANNEX A.
