SCOPE :

The intent of this specification is to define the requirements of Fibre
Glass reinforced plastic cable trays, necessary hardware, accessories and
fittings etc. required for laying of Power and control cables on offshore
platforms.

CODES AND STANDARDS:

The following codes and standards shall form part of this specification.

ANSI/NFPA American National Standards Institute/National
Fire Protection Association.

NEC U.S. National Electrical Code


NEMA FGI-198X U.S. National Electrical Manufacturer's
Association.

ASTM American Society for Testing and Material

BSI British Standards Institution.

IEC International Electrotechnical Commission

ISI Indian Standards Institution

API-RP-14F American Petroleum Institute - "Design and
Installation of Electrical System for Offshore
Platform".

Any other International Standard or Code may be used in lieu of above,
subject to prior approval of the Company.

SITE CONDITIONS :

All the cable trays and their accessories shall be designed to withstand
the conditions specified in the General Specification "Site Condition and
Climate" (Spec No 5006) or as given in particular specification, if
specified therein.

SCOPE OF SUPPLY :

The scope of supply through this specification includes:

Fibre glass reinforced ladder type, ventilated and solid bottom cable
trays and tray covers

Accessories such as bends, tees, crosses, reducers, splicers and necessary
hardwares etc.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Fibre Glass Cable Trays :

Fibre glass cable trays shall be manufactured in accordance with NEMA
FGI-198x and ASTM E-84 Standards.

All cable trays and accessories shall be made of the fibre glass and shall
be corrosion resistant and fire retardant (Class 1, Fire rating) in
accordance with the latest ASTM E-84. An additive material shall be
mixed with the fibre glass to make them resistant to ultraviolet light.

The minimum glass content in FRP material shall be 45%

The ladder type trays shall have side rails and horizontal rungs. Both of
these shall be of same material i.e. the Fibre glass with additive. The
rungs shall be placed 300 mm apart from each other.

The cable trays shall be supplied in standard lengths of 3000 mm and
clear width of trays shall be 150, 300,600 and 750 mm. The tolerance

on width and length shall limited to 6 mm. The overall width of the
cable tray shall not exceed inside width by more than 100mm.




The inside depth of the cable trays shall not exceed 150 mm.

The tray construction shall have high degree of finish and shall be such
as to facilitate easy handling as also to ensure easy laying of cables
without causing damage to cables. The inside surface shall be perfectly
smooth and free from sharp edges, burrs or projections, etc.

Each section of tray shall be complete with necessary connector plate
and hardware. The hardware shall conform to NEMA FGI-198X and
shall be able to withstand the loading as specified below. The bends,
tees, reducers, crosses and droppers shall have required bending redii but
not less than 300 mm.

For tray system design, in addition to self load, following guideline for
design shall be considered :
a) Support Span 3000 mm.
b) Cable load for
i). 150 mm width 30 kg/Linear Metre.
ii). 300 mm width 60 kg/Linear Metre.
iii). 600 mm width 90 kg/Linear Metre.
iv). 750 mm width 120 kg/Linear Metre.

In addition to this, 70 kg concentrated load at centre span with a safety
factor of 2 shall be considered.


The side rails and all accessories shall have the holes on each end for
fixing connector plates. The connectors between two sections of cable
trays or a Section of cable trays with associated accessories shall be
done by bolting only.

TESTING AND INSPECTION :

Testing and inspection of cables trays shall include but not necessarily
be limited to the following :

A quantitative check shall be made to ensure that all items with
accessories are present according to order and the packing list.





A visual inspection shall be made to ensure that good workmanship and
practice were maintained throughout the fabrication.

Fibre glass type of trays shall be tested as per NEMA-FGI-198X.
Following tests shall be carried out on each type of tray system.

a) Destruction Load Test
b) Deflection Test

Company reserves the right to witness the final test and inspection. Prior
notice of at least 20 days shall be given to enable the Company to depute
its representative to witness the test.

SPARES :

Vendor shall supply 20% hardware such as nuts, bolts, splice/connector
plate for each type and size of cable trays and accessories. These shall
be properly wrapped and packed separately, clearly marked as spare
hardware for cable trays and shipped alongwith trays. Packing list shall
be furnished so that the parts can be handled without uncrating, if
required.


WARRANTY :

Vendor shall have final and total responsibility for the design and
performance of trays supplied under this specification. Vendor shall
warrant the trays furnished, by them and the performance of said trays in
accordance with this specification and "General Specification
Definition" (Spec No. 1050)

VENDOR DATA REQUIREMENTS :

Vendor shall furnish data in accordance with General Specification
"vendor Data Requirement" (Spec No. 1060)

CONFLICT :

In the event of conflict between this specification and other documents
listed herein, the following order of priority shall govern:
i). Design Criteria, drawings and data sheet (whichever applicable).
ii). This Specification.
iii). General Specifications.
iv). Codes and Standards.

CERTIFICATION :

All offered cable trays or those of similar designs manufactured by the
same supplier:
shall have been type tested by an authority approved by the
Company.
shall have been in continuous satisfactory service in off-shore for
a minimum period of two years.
shall be having current certification/approval/listing by an
approved agency or UL or FM


PACKING AND TRANSPORT :

The offered cable trays alongwith their accessories shall be shipped to
site packed in wooden crates. They shall be wrapped with polythene
sheets, before being placed in the crates to prevent damage to finish.
Crates shall have skid bottom for handling.
