With high competition, both marketing and sales jobs have become challenging and
challenges are an interesting part as they keep you stand on your toes!
Marketing the product well helps in boosting sales. So it won't be illegitimate if I say that
marketing gives a good push to sales. Sometimes, the brain-storming required is more in
marketing as compared to sales.
A number of companies rely mostly on the marketing of the product to get good sales
numbers. With social media engagements breaking records, a great playing field is created
on the marketing front. However, with that, the fierce competition is breaking records too!

Related What is more difficult, sales or marketing?
As per my experience sales are difficult things but if you do marketing well then It is not
too much hard to sell any product.
When you do marketing any product you have to consider some points when you start
marketing.
4. If you get your people apin point then after It is too much easy to sell anything in
this world.
5. People are connected with emotions when they are purchasing anything so firstly
when creating campaign you have to influence people by their emotions.

Every job has its own level of challenges, marketing and sales go hand in hand.
Marketing is the initial step of creating awareness to the customer, making them understand
the underlying problems within their organization or day to day life.
Once a need is created, then comes demand..Just as we see Xiaomi phones creates
urgency with flash-sales.. This would help out the sales part to be easier as inbound enquiry
increases.
While we consider B2B business, once awareness is created, then the next step would be
demo/ technical discussion, pricing ..several levels of communication has to be undergone
before a final sale is made.
This is where marketing & sales have to work together for a win-win situation.
Marketing supports you in creating a brand which will help out the sales to convince the
customer towards the purchase. PRICE DROP

Thanks to the A2A, Sales & Marketing have their own set of challenges however they work
on the same common goal to drive revenue for a company or a business.
Both have a common goal to identify the target audience, understand the personas, align
yourself with target goals, and execute all possible ways to bring in business.

A marketer adresses the question “why would (this group of) customers buy?”. He/she
tries to find common buying reasons, sets out a strategy, and develops specific tactics or
material for this.
A sales person on the other hand talks to specific customers, seeks to understand “why
would this customer here buy?”, and finds a way to address his/her needs.
Marketers are strategists. They usually love written language. Fancy new things.
Sales people are all about people. They like to talk and listen. Are more about fancy things.
I used to work in a sector where people believed that the best marketers came from the
sales department. Marketers were seen as sales material producers. And who knows how to
make sales material better than those who know the customer, right?
This is a huge mistake. Sales and marketing require different thinking. The one job does
not give you the necessary experience for the other.
If you want to really stand out however, learn both. Get the big picture strategic view, and
train your human empathy and listening skills. The Ying and the Yang.
It will make you a more balanced person in business and many times more successful.

3 years ago, Fawad, a friend and British tech entrepreneur, is about to leave Malaysia.
He tells me he has been mulling over building a cloud-based payroll software focusing on
Malaysian SMEs.
Both of us are struggling with our own payroll, so feel the pain point. Fawad suggests I might
as well do the business, as he is leaving.
As Fawad gives me the details he realises how big this will be if we build a great product and
give great customer service.
While he’s telling me what to do and what not to do, I could see his own eyes lighting up with
excitement!
A couple of hours after we’re finished, he calls me and says he wants to do the business
with me!
He suggests we both put in the money to get going. He manages the product development
remotely and I do the rest.
I agree.
Soon, we have 3 new co-founders - Toine, Juan, and Isabelle. And it's not long before
Jessica, Arsen, Erwin, and others join.
…and today PayrollPanda.my is the leading cloud payroll software in Malaysia, used by
thousands of Malaysian businesses.

In the late '90s a certain relative of mine passed away. We were not close. He was extremely
successful as an industrialist; had a mansion and yachts and a collection of Rolls Royce's.
But he didn't have much contact with others. Couldn't resolve conflict. Was often belligerent
and obnoxious.
20 people came to his funeral. 10 of us family and the rest on his payroll in one way or
another.
OK, let me tell you about another funeral. My father was a philosophy teacher at Conn
College for almost 40 years. He died suddenly between Christmas and New Year's, 1999.
Trips were cancelled. Flight plans redirected. 100's of people showed up for his funeral.
Mostly former students. One simply shook my hand and said, "Your father inspired me to be
a teacher."
That's legacy.
That's life.

Related How should I decide between a sales and marketing career in 2015?
Having worked in marketing for years and knowing many, many people in sales, I can outline
the key differences and you can decide which is a better fit for you.
Marketing
The starting salary in marketing isn't great, but there is potential there. The thing about
marketing is there aren't really a lot of quantitative ways to calculate your value so you have
to work really really hard, often on a team. I know a lot of people who work in marketing that
jump from job to job just for better titles, because really that's the only way you can
differentiate yourself and show your worth.

The key to making money in marketing is to walk the path less travelled. When most people

marginally more, but work just as hard. Stop doing *actual* marketing - start a

It is not a compulsion that a person aspiring to be a marketer needs to start his/her career in

1. When a person works in sales he/she thoroughly understands the product, promotion

Learning to sell is the most effective business skill you can acquire.
Once you learn the mechanics of selling stuff, pretty much any business opportunity is
possible for you.
Don’t give up until you become competent. Once you’re competent then move out of the
position and into something else.
