ALU02407487 - Two Way Active Measurement protocol TWAMP Light support
Feature Content
• TWAMP light is a Two way measurement protocol which has a Controller and Reflector model. It
uses UDP test packets to measure loss and delay in the network.

• This RCR enables ISAM to act as a TWAMP light reflector, in other words responding to test-
requests of Controller with test-reply packets.

• ISAM will supporting TWAMP light reflector functionality in both Base router and VPRN.

• Maximum 32 Reflectors can be configured on ISAM. System supports 320 PPS of TWAMP light
packets. This is to support each reflector can support 10 test packets per second. So controller
timer has to be 100ms or greater.

• Prefix can be configured in the reflector to control from which controller to accept. Per reflector it
is possible to configure 50 prefixes. The system limit for prefix is 500.

Feature Content
• Controller will initiate TWAMP light packets for specific DSCP so while reply same will be retained
by reflector.

• For dot1p priority of TWAMP light reply packets below behaviour applied
- If sgt-qos is applied, then configured p-bit value will be set in all modes ( ies/vprn and network
mode).
- If sgt-qos is not applied, then default p-bit value (7) will be set in all modes.

Supported configurations / limitations

• For which hardware is this applicable ? (shelves, NT, LTs )

• FANT-G
• Are there any limitations ?
• The ISAM will support only software based timestamp. The hardware timestamp not possible.
The RTT delay will include software latency as well. In ideal condition the software latency
could be maximum of 2 ms. In case of congestion present in hardware itself or software tunnel
from standby to active CPU, it will be accounted in end to end RTT.
• The ISAM supports round trip delay metrics. Unidirectional frame delay and frame delay range
measurements require exceptional time of day clock synchronization. If the time of day clock
does not exhibit extremely tight synchronization, unidirectional measurements will not be
representative. In one direction, the measurement will be artificially increased by the
difference in the clocks. In one direction, the measurement will be artificially decreased by the
difference in the clocks.
• The ISAM will not support fragmented TWAMP light test requests.
• The ISAM will not support TWAMP light over GRE tunnels.

Impact on MIB

MIB Table Description

tmnxOamPmCfgTwlRflTable contains the configuration information for OAM

Performance Monitoring TWAMP-Light (Two-Way Active Measurement
Protocol, Light) reflectors.
tmnxOamPmCfgTwlRflTable A TWAMP-Light reflector responds to TWAMP-Test frames.

tmnxOamPmCfgTwlRflPfxTable contains the configuration information for

OAM Performance Monitoring TWAMP-Light (Two-Way Active Measurement
Protocol, Light) reflector prefixes.
The set of prefixes configured for a TWAMP-Light reflector defines a
set of valid source addresses for the reflector. When the reflector is
validating an incoming TWAMP-Test PDU, the PDU is rejected (and
tmnxOamPmCfgTwlRflPfxTable counted) if its source address is invalid.
