You are on page 1of 1

1. Red need to be rewritten. Beloved, ‘Beloved’ or “Beloved” need to be in italics.

2. Blue point to my suggestions.

3. I love your thesis statement in page 1.
“This paper seeks to explore the theme of motherhood in Beloved, looking closely at how
Morrison takes back this important part of being human. It highlights the lasting strength of a
mother's love and the sacrifices made, as portrayed in the book.”

And you did a great job in doing exactly what you declared in the thesis statement.

4. In page 2 I am not sure about Horvitz part.

“Horvitz suggests that in Toni Morrison's novel, Beloved is a special character that symbolizes
important themes. According to Horvitz, Beloved represents a ghost child with a connection
across generations and continents, teaching Sethe about the vital value of memories and stories
from her maternal family line (Horvitz, 98)”

This paragraph needs to be located after Wyatt part (Wyatt 97), which has more related argument
with the character Beloved.

5. In page 3 you mention infanticide and in page 4 you talk about the theme of mother-daughter
relationship. However, I guess it would be more logical if you mention the theme of strong
mother-daughter relationship and then talk about infanticide, which results from desperate
resistance.

6. This is your argument flow.

Page 2 infanticide resulting from cruel exploitation and oppression of the slaved women
Page 3 the mother-daughter relationship
Page 3 Sethe’s deep love for her kids and her love for Beloved
Page 4 the separation of daughters from their mothers but, the next paragraph is about Sethe’s
affection and devotion to her kids
Page 5 mother-healers but the next paragraph is about you talk about the “milk” again.

I think another logical rearrangement of the paragraphs would improve the paper.

1. the mother-daughter relationship

2. the separation of daughters from their mothers
3. Sethe’s affection and devotion to her kids
4. Sethe’s deep love for her kids and her love for Beloved
5. “Milk” argument in page 5
6. The significance of other characters, such as Beloved (Wyatt 97) and mother-healers in page 5
