1. This paper consists three (3) questions.
2. Answer all questions.
3. Question one (1) carries twenty marks and question two (2) and three (3) carry 15 marks each.
4. Cellular phone and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the examination room.

1. You have been provided with specimen H. Dissect specimen H in a usual way to fully digestive
system and reproductive system and pin alimentary canal on the left-hand side of the specimen.
(a) State the sex of the specimen and explain the external features you used to determine the
sex of specimen.
(b) Draw a net and well labelled diagram of your dissection and label the required parts.
(c) Mention the structure in specimen H which perform the same function as rumen in
mammals example goat.
(d) Leave your dissection properly displayed for assessment.

2. You have been provided with 2 percentage Hydrogen peroxide and some fresh liver. Carryout
the activities to investigate the interaction of substance X present in liver and soaked peas with
hydrogen peroxide.
(i) Label test tube 1, 2 and 3.
(ii) Cut 1cm3 of liver and place it in the test tube 1.
(iii) Add 4cm3 of hydrogen peroxide into a test tube containing fresh liver, observe and
record.
(iv) Cut 1cm3 of fresh liver and grind by using mortar and pestle.
(v) Place the ground liver in test tube 2.
(vi) Add 4cm3 of hydrogen peroxide in the test tube containing ground liver, observe and
record.
(vii) Repeat step number (iv)
(viii) Boil the ground liver in test tube 3 and allow it to cool.
(ix) Repeat step (vi)
(a) Record your observation in the table as shown below:

(b) (i) Suggest the name of substance X.


(ii) Mention the cellular organelle in which the substance X is present and
draw a labeled diagram in its simple structure.
(iii) None biochemical process catalyzed by X which takes place in the liver
cells.

(c) What were the purpose of:
(i) Grinding the liver
(ii) Boiling the liver

(d) (i) Write balanced equation of the reaction between substance X and hydrogen
peroxides.
(ii) What is the biological significance of this reaction in living organisms?
(iii) Briefly explain three types of organelles which contain substance X in plants
and animals.

3. You have been provided with specimens S, D and K.


(a) (i) Classify specimens S, D and K up to class level.
(ii) How specimen K adapted to its mode of life? (Give 2 points)
(iii) What are the importance of specimen K in agricultural sector. (2 points)

(b) Cut specimen D longitudinally by using new razor blade into two equal parts, make a well
labelled diagram of one half part of specimen. (Label reproductive parts only).

(c) (i) Identify specimen S by its common name.


(ii) What are the economic importance of specimen S?
