Main Causes Of Cylinder Head Scoring

Causes Description

Insufficient An insufficient amount of lubricant fails to prevent excessive friction of moving

Lubrication parts, resulting in cylinder head scoring.

Contaminated Some components can contaminate the lubricant, resulting in cylinder head
Lubricant scoring.

Improper
An inadequate air/fuel mixture can cause this type of problem.
Combustion

Excessive Excessive speed or excessive workload for the engine can deteriorate various
Workload parts such as the cylinder head.

Damaged Parts Some engine parts may be damaged or there may be leaks, which can damage
Or Components the cylinder head and other components.

What Is Acceptable Cylinder Wear?

About 0.1 mm of cylinder liner usually wears per 1000 running hours.
If the cold engine power is overburdened, the wear rate will increase.

When the cylinder liner wear rate reaches 0.6-0.8% of the bore
diameter, you must replace the liner and rod bearing. According to a
service manual, the liner’s maximum allowable wear was 0.12mm.

A piston would be fortunate to have more than 0.04mm of clearance

when it leaves the factory. A strutted piston has a highly loose
clearance of 0.12 mm.
