Transition Coursework Booklet

One of the most important things you can do as students, is make sure that
you complete the learning activities we set as this is part of your learning
journey in English. Please know, that we do not expect you to understand
everything straight away, but by you doing the groundwork, we have a solid
place to build on. Even if you struggle or are not sure, we do need you to read
the texts and know that we will all work together to develop an understanding
and appreciation for these texts 

As part of the Unit 3 and 4 English course, students are expected to complete the following:

 Read the play, Oedipus

 Read the novel, The Memory Police
 Complete the learning activities for each of these texts

This work must be handwritten and submitted to your teacher.

LA 1: An Introduction to ‘King Oedipus’ by Sophocles

Many claim that this play is the world’s masterpiece. Its story is simple: a man
unwittingly murders his father and marries his mother. But if the story is simple, the
implications are not. We see a man caught in a web not of his own conscious making,
and we witness his destruction, inevitable and fearsome, drawn upon him by the very
frenzy of his efforts to break free; finally, discovers the truth, and his life is broken.
