ACADEMIC PRESENTATION (30%)

The objective of this activity is to develop your skills in making an academic presentation. You
will be taken through a process of preparation, practice and presentation of an informative
speech. The chosen topic must be related to your field of studies and approved by the
instructor.

This is a pair work activity which involves two tasks:

 Academic Presentation Portfolio – 8%
 Academic Presentation Assessment – 22%

The division of the presentation should be as follows:

 For pairs:
o Presenter 1 – introduction and main point 1
o Presenter 2 – main point 2 and conclusion
 For triplets:
o Presenter 1 - introduction and main point 1
o Presenter 2 – main point 2 and main point 3
o Presenter 3 – main point 4 and conclusion

Assessment:
 Content and visual aids (group score)
 Delivery (individual score)

Note:
 Students must have the same partner(s) for both tasks.
Example: A class with 25 students will have 11 pairs and 1 triplet.

7  Find a partner.
 Complete Form 1a (pair) or 1b (triplet).
 Have topic approved by the instructor.
10  Video record the presentation.
 Print and show slides (1st Draft) to instructor for feedback.
 Complete Reflection Form 2a (pair) or 2b(triplet) and Form 3.
11  Evaluate selected recorded presentations in class.
12  Improve the presentation based on the class discussion in week
11.
 Video record the improved presentation.

 Complete Reflection Form 4.

 Print and show slides (Final Draft) to instructor for feedback.
13  Submit the Presentation Portfolio.
14  Make a presentation in class for Academic Presentation
Assessment.

Task 1 - Academic Presentation Portfolio (8%)

1. Video record presentation 1 and 2, and burn them in a CD using wmv or avi format.
2. Complete the following forms:
 Form 1
 Form 2
 Form 3
 Form 4
3. Type responses using Arial 11, 1.15 spacing.
4. Compile and submit the forms and CD in week 13.

Task 2 - Academic Presentation Assessment (22%)

1. Present speech in class in week 14.

2. Use audio-visual aids for the presentation.
3. Duration of presentation:
 Pair : 6 - 8 minutes
 Triplet : 9 -12 minutes
4. Each member must speak during the presentation. Marks will be awarded individually.
