You need to create a new Batch Search Strategy.

Business Process Procedure Overview

In the logistics process you are sometimes required to specify batches for individual business transactions. You can use batch
determination for all types of goods movements from the warehouse to find batches that meet defined specifications. In
Production (PP/PP-PI), batch determination is used to select suitable material components for the product that is to be produced,
and to pick these from stock.
As raw materials with certain specifications are required for the manufacture of this material, batch determination is triggered.
If a sufficient quantity of raw material is available, the selected batches are reserved for the production or process order.
Before production commences, an availability check is run as part of batch determination.
The production or process order is released.
A batch number is assigned to the material to be produced.
The shop floor papers (PI sheet, for example) are created.
An order-related inspection lot is created for quality inspection.
…The raw materials warehouse is notified of the transport requirement for material provision.
The manufacturing process is completed, the batch of raw material is consumed.

This procedure covers the creation of a new batch search strategy.

Related transactions are COB2 (change) and COB3 (display).

1.2. On screen “Create Batch Search Strategy: Initial Screen”, enter information in the fields as
specified in the table below:

<<< Screen print goes here >>>

Field Name Description R/O/C User Action and Values Comments
Strategy type R Select the desired strategy type
Key R Select the desired key combinations
combination

(Note: On above table, in column “R/O/C”; “R” = Required, “O” = Optional, “C” = Conditional)

Choose the strategy type for which you want to create a batch search strategy, and click the Key
combinations button or press ENTER. A pop-up window appears with key combinations. These key
combinations stem from the access sequence of the strategy type. Select the key combination you want
to use for your strategy by clicking the radio button to the left of your selection, and click the green check
or press ENTER.

1.3. On screen “Create (strategy name) (strategy ID): Fast Entry”, enter information in the fields as
specified in the table below:

The screen appears on which you create a batch search strategy. Depending on the key combination
you selected, enter the plants, materials, movement types, and so on, for which you want the search
strategy to be valid and press ENTER. The system automatically adopts the default values from the
strategy type. You can change these default values as you desire.

You also have the option to define a validity period for the search strategy. This is the period in which
this strategy will be considered in batch determination.

After entering the desired materials, select a line and click the Selection criteria button.

1.4. On screen “Create (strategy name) (strategy ID): Classification”, enter information in the fields
as specified in the table below:

You store the selection criteria as characteristics in a selection class. They must be characteristics or
Standard Characteristics that you have used for the classification of the batch. After entering the desired
selection classes, click the green check and the General pop-up window will appear. Enter the
appropriate characteristic values and then click the back green arrow.

Now select a line and click on the Sort Button.

You can specify an ascending or descending sort sequence for each field. Choose the desired sort rule
and press ENTER. Your sort sequence will be displayed.

Click the back green arrow and notice that the Selection and Sort sequence boxes are not checked.
Click the save icon and the informational message “Condition record saved” will appear.
