Personal Statement

My name is Mahrukh Ijaz from Lahore, and I’m currently a 5th-semester student
of BS Clinical Psychology at UMT. I’m writing this essay to comprehensively introduce
myself and talk about my interests.

In my spare time, I'm currently more interested in understanding the fundamentals and
purposes of Islam. My main goal is to understand the Sunnah, Hadith, and Qur'an via
books and various social media platforms, such as blogs, videos, and online courses. It has
greatly impacted my social abilities by boosting my communication and encouraging
generosity and hospitality as unique qualities. It has also greatly shaped my personality and
character by strengthening my sense of thankfulness, self-discipline, tolerance, and patience.

My natural interest drew me to sketching, painting, designing, and drawing from a

young age. It has demonstrated to be a motivating factor for both my academic and
professional endeavors. I've been doing graphic designing for the past two years for a
variety of companies and organizations. This skill has helped me professionally by
strengthening my leadership abilities and encouraging top-notch teamwork. This ability has
greatly aided me as a student in producing compelling presentations, successfully
communicating ideas, encouraging creativity, improving my communication skills, and
cultivating a distinct problem-solving attitude. It has had a favorable impact on both my
professional and academic life.

I had previously been admitted to HND (Human Nutrition and Dietetics), and after
a month of coursework, I discovered that the institution was not listed with HEC. I was
forced to switch from HND to clinical psychology at UMT as a result. My mother chose this
area, and thank God, I've already completed five semesters in it. In general, I found it
challenging to accept and adjust to this shift, but eventually, I succeeded.

Under the guidance of Professor M.F., I started working on SDG Goal-4 with
my six group mates in my third semester. Overall, It was an amazing academic experience,
mostly because it enabled me to push myself beyond my comfort zone and finish my
coursework quickly.

Throughout my childhood, I have received numerous awards, trophies, and degrees.

But I do recall an incident from the third semester: Ms. M.A., one of my course instructors,
gave me a chocolate bar and said it was her way of appreciating students for their good

midterm results. Similar experiences from my time in college and university come to mind.
And to be very honest, I think that praises and compliments are more important than awards.

I do recall some terrible and unforgettable incidents from my life instead of these
incredible and lovely ones. My father's passing was one of them. I was freed from my
matriculation, when my father died on August 10, 2016, and my results weren't made public
until July 25. All in all, it was abrupt and unanticipated, and its consequences included
numerous social and financial difficulties. Though those were incredibly difficult and
demanding years, thank God we made it through and prospered. However, I still miss Dad,
and one day I will make him proud!

My short-term objectives for the future are to finish reading some books, get some
internship experience, and gain more knowledge about Islam. In addition to this, my long-
term objectives include developing mosques with playgrounds, working as a
psychologist and lecturer, and conducting research on transgender people to advance their
rights in the workplace and education.
