Method Statement
Sikadur®-52 MY And Sikadur®-31CF Normal
– For Crack Injection (Static Cracks) & Cold Joints

Product Sikadur®-52 MY and Sikadur®-31CF Normal.

Description  Sikadur®-52 MY is a 2-component, solvent-free, low viscosity injection-liquid,

based on high strength epoxy resins. It is free flowing, fast curing and after
mixing, Sikadur®-52 MY can be injected into cavities, cracks or cold joints in
concrete under dry, damp or wet conditions (no standing water). Cured Sikadur ®-
52 MY possesses high mechanical strength, excellent adhesion, non-shrinking
properties and a chemical resistance typical of all epoxy resins. Cracks or joints
as small as 0.2 mm in width have been successfully sealed with Sikadur ®-52 MY
and although it has very high strength, the cured material is not brittle and retains
a very slight flexible nature. Sikadur®-52 MY conforms to ASTM C881-79 Type 1,
Grade 1 Class B and C.
 Sikadur®-31CF Normal is a solvent-free 2-component epoxy bonding agent.

Equipment/Tools Electric drill with appropriate drill bits, paddle (drill speed max 500 rpm), injection
Required nipples, packers, hoses and clips and hand pump or manual/electric pump with
pressure gauge (if required).

Preparation Cleaning

1. All crack lines to be sealed are to be marked out on site as agreed with the
Supervising Officer and recorded before proceeding with the repair work.
2. The surface, about 50 mm, on both sides of the crack line or cold joint must be
thoroughly cleaned with a wire brush, water jet or other appropriate methods to
remove all dust, grease and loose particles.

Preparation Of Injection Nipples

1. Fixing of Injection Nipples

1.1. Mix Sikadur®-31CF Normal (refer to Product Data Sheet) and place it along the
crack line approximately 50mm width, 2 - 3 mm thick (total) with a scraper
(except at the injection nipple centre). Place injection nipples on the Sikadur ®-31
CF Normal and apply pressure. Apply another layer of Sikadur ®-31CF Normal
(2 – 3 mm thick) to “sandwich” the nipple base.
1.2. Continue to place other injection nipples at 300 - 500 mm center to center in the
same manner. Allow to cure for at least 12 hours.

Note:
 Depending on site conditions, it may be necessary to have injection ports from
both sides of the member.
 Ensure that the packers are not pushed to the end of the hole as this may then
block the flow of the injection resin.

Mixing Pour component A into a dry, clean container. Add component B and thoroughly mix
with a mechanical mixer at low speed for 3 minutes. Working sequence shall be
carefully planned in order to ensure a continuous operation. Mixing ratio for Sikadur ®-
52 MY is A:B = 2:1 parts by weight / volume.

These working instructions have been prepared based on Sika’s current knowledge and experience of Sika’s products when proper ly stored, handled and applied under
normal conditions. They only apply to the application(s) and product(s) referred to in these instructions. In case of changes in the parameters of the application, such as
changes in substrates, etc., or in case of a different application, consult Sika’s Technical Service prior to using Sika’s products. The user of the product must test the
product’s suitability for the intended application and purpose. Consult the current Product Data Sheet. Except as expressly agreed in writing, Sika’s warranty is

Pressure Grouting 1. As soon as the mixture is ready, the injection operation shall start from the lowest
(for vertical injection) or furthest (for horizontal and overhead injection) inlet port.
2. When Sikadur®-52 MY oozes out from the next adjacent port, that port is ‘locked
off’ and the injection process is continued.
3. Step 2 is repeated until the entire crack line is filled with Sikadur®-52 MY (the
exact sequence will depend on site conditions).
4. The final outlet port is locked off. Then the outlet is released to ‘flush out’ any
entrapped air.
5. Step 4 is repeated until no air is trapped in the crack line. Then, the outlet port is
locked off and pressure built up once more. The inlet port is finally locked-off.

Cleaning Clean all tools and equipment with Thinner before the resin has cured. Cured
injection material can only be removed mechanically. If re-usable injection devices
are used, care must be taken to flush them from time to time with Thinner.

Removal of Injection Remove nipples with chisel or cutter only after Sikadur ®-52 MY has
Tools completely cured (at least 24 hours after injection). Sikadur ®-52 MY adhesive can be
removed using hot air and scraper or other appropriate means.

Safety Precautions Wear gloves and goggles during application. If in contact with skin, wash thoroughly
with soap and water. If in contact with eyes or mucous membrane, flush immediately
with plenty of water and seek medical attention without delay. Use with adequate
ventilation.

For more information, refer to our Chemical Safety Data Sheet (available upon
request).

Note This is a general method statement and therefore specific conditions of use cannot
be anticipated. It is the specialist applicator’s responsibility to review the actual site
conditions and specify detailing requirements.
