GALLBLADDER

-The gallbladder is a small hollow organ about the size and shape of a pear.
-Its main function is to store and concentrate bile, which is released into the duodenum during digestion.
Bile is an alkaline fluid continuously produced by the liver whose primary function is to aid in digestion
and absorption of lipids, as they are not soluble in water. It is composed of cholesterol, bilirubin, water,
bile salts, phospholipids, and ions. The cholesterol excreted into bile eliminates most of the cholesterol
in the body.

COMMON BILE DUCT

-is a small, tube-like structure formed where the common hepatic duct and the cystic duct join. Its
physiological role is to carry bile from the gallbladder and empty it into the upper part of the small
intestine (the duodenum)
COMMON HEPATIC DUCT
-the connection between the left and right hepatic ducts whose function is to drain bile from the liver.
This duct is an important part of the biliary duct system, which transports waste from the liver and aids
in digestion by releasing bile.
CYSTIC DUCT
-is part of the extrahepatic biliary tree, the one that connects the gallbladder to the common bile duct
transporting bile to and from the gallbladder. It is formed medially off the neck of the gallbladder,
travelling in a posteromedial direction and joining with the common hepatic duct to form the common
bile duct.
COMMON HEPATIC DUCT
-helps the body digest food and drain waste products from the liver.
-responsible for bile transport. It forms by the convergence of the left and right hepatic ducts, draining
bile from the liver. The common hepatic duct combines with the cystic duct from the gallbladder to
form the common bile duct. This duct plays a crucial role in the digestion process by transporting bile,
which aids in the breakdown of fats. Understanding its anatomy is essential for comprehending the
physiology of bile flow and digestion.
DUODENUM
-it receives chyme (partially digested food) from the stomach. Pancreatic enzymes and bile enter the
duodenum to further break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
