Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician

The Caterpillar Electronic Technician service tool is used in order to access the calibration procedures.
For more information, refer to the manual that was provided with the ET.
The calibration menu is used in order to compensate for the differences in the mechanical components
and the electrical components. The calibration should be performed if the ECM has been replaced or the
ECM was removed. The calibration should be performed if components have been replaced or removed.
Perform all calibrations that are applicable.
Accessing Calibrations
Connect the ET to the machine. After communication has been established, the ET will list the
electronic control modules that are on the machine.
1. Select the Power Train ECM.

2. Select "Service" from the main menu.
3. Select "Calibrations" from the drop-down menu.
The following is a list of all possible calibrations. The specific calibrations will differ across sales
models.

4. Select the desired calibration procedure from the fly out window.

5. Follow the instructions that are provided on the screen.
Note: Additional screens will be displayed in order to notify the operator of the status of the calibration
procedure.
Using the Advisor

1. Press the "Home Menu" button.
2. Press the down arrow until the "Service" line on the menu is highlighted.

4. From the "Service" menu, scroll to "Service Password".

6. The Advisor will display "Service Mode is Disabled". Press "OK" in order to access the password
entry screen.
7. At the password entry screen, press "OK" in order to enter the password.

8. Enter the password.
Note: Caterpillar sets the last four digits of the machine serial number as the password.
a. Scroll to the right or left in order to select the desired number.
b. Press "OK" in order to insert the number.
c. Repeat steps 8.a and 8.b for the remaining three digits.
d. Scroll to" Accept" and press "OK".

9. When the Service Mode is enabled, press the "BACK" button in order to return to the Service
Menu.
Note: Calibrations will now be a selectable item from the menu.

10. From the Service Menu, scroll to "Calibrations" and press the "OK" button.
11. Scroll to the desired system calibration and press the "OK" button.

12. Scroll to the desired calibration procedure.
The calibrations for the Power Train are listed:

13. The calibrations for the Steering System are listed:

14. Follow the instructions that are provided on the screen in order to perform the calibration
procedure.
Brake Touch-up Calibration

1. In order to adjust the Brake Touch-up Calibration with Cat Electronic Technician, reference
"Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician".
In order to adjust Brake Touch-up Calibration with Cat Advisor, reference "Using The Advisor".
2. Make sure that the power train oil is 60 °C (140 °F) or higher.
3. Select "Left Brake Touch-Up Pressure Cal" from the menu.
4. Follow the instructions that are provided on the screen in order to perform the calibration
procedure.
5. The current calibration value will be displayed on the screen.
6. Increase the current calibration value by five. The test will not run when the calibration value is
increased. The test will only run when the calibration value is decreased.
7. Decrease the calibration value by one. The test will apply the brakes for 8 seconds.
8. If the tracks stopped rotating immediately, increase the calibration value by five again.
9. Repeat step 6 through 8 until the tracks continue to rotate the entire time.
10. If the tracks continued to rotate the entire time, the calibration value is too high. Allow the tracks
to rotate several times and then decrease the calibration value by one.
11. Continue to decrease the calibration value until the brakes gradually stop the track from rotating
within the 8 seconds.
12. Select the "OK" button in order to accept the new calibration value.
