DCMM SYLLABUS

I. CLASS PIANO
 Music Alphabet.
 Key Identification: Middle C followed by keys on the R.H.S. & keys on the L.H.S.
 Finger numbers.
 Major Pentascales on all 12 keys- HS followed by HT.
 I-IV-I-V7 on all 12 keys.
 Short pieces (4-8 bars) based on Major pentascales and I-IV-I-V7 on all 12 keys.
 Minor Pentascales on all 12 keys- Hs followed by HT.
 i-iv-i-V7 on all 12 keys.
 Short pieces (4-8 bars) based on minor pentascales and i-iv-i-V7 on all 12 keys.
 French Minuet (based on pentascales)
 Trumpet Voluntary (R.H. pentascale; L.H. I-IV-I-V7)
 1 octave Major Scale on all 12 keys
 1 octave Harmonic minor Scale on White keys
 Contrary motion scales- 1 octave: C major and A harmonic minor
 Chromatic scale: Similar motion starting on G; Contrary motion starting on D
 Assign pieces according to level and progress.

II. CHOIR ORGANISATION


 Attendance.
 Participation.
 Vocalising.
 Helping on the piano while vocalising.

III. AURAL SKILLS


 Solfegge- simple exercises on steps and skips then hymnal SATB.
 Singing and identifying intervals: Major + minor- Ascending and descending.
 Singing scales: Major + all 3 types of minor scales.
 Identifying time signature- 2/4, 3/4, 4/4.
 Rhythmic dictation.
 Melodic dictation.
 Transcription.

 ABRSM Music Theory in Practice Grade 1-3
 Composition Materials from Trinity Grade 3,4,5 and ABRSM grade 4,5
 SATB composition materials from The Practice of Harmony Peter Spencer.
