I. Background

Solar Cell is a manufacturing company based in southern part of Korea that manufactures
different types of solar-powered products. They have customers based in the local parts of the
country and abroad. The company is growing fast due to the increased demand for non-
conventional energy. The CEO of the company associates their success in the use of control
charts for their manufacturing procedures which lets them control the quality of their final
outputs.

II. Statement of the Problem

Due to major increases of employees, they used control charts to control the attrition and
overspending in their organization, but many employees are complaining toward the use of
control chart pertaining to exhausting additional workload. The management also decided to
provide one day awareness program to the employees so that they would understand the
benefits and use of control charts.
The steps that should the top management need to employ in order to overcome the
resistance of the employees in the change initiative is change. Change is really important in
the workplace, if the management implements change, they will overcome the resistance of
the employees. By implementing change in workplace, they can work motivated and happy
that will result to the profit of the company and achieve the goal of the company. Also, if
they employ change the company will have an advantage against their competitors.
The steps in implementing SPC should Solar Cell Manufacturer apply in order to succeed in
the initiative is to train appropriate operators and teams, since based on the case study ,
there was an inaccurate allotted budget. So that, this step will help the management to have
a proper training for the operators and teams who will be directly involved with the
collection , plotting and interpretation. Also, they need to develop control charts to monitor
the different steps in the production processes.

III. Areas of Consideration

It is said in the case study that, difficult situation arises due to the resistance of the
employees toward the use of control charts which gains several complaints from the
employees pertaining to exhausting additional workload since they would have to monitor
and notate the different outflows and inflows in their major and minor day-to-day
operations. There was a clear lack of understanding of the benefits of control charts and the
need for change using control charts as a catalyst for change. Also, the management have

found out that allotted budgets in some departments or work units of the firm are
unrealistic, inaccurate, and unreasonable.

IV. Alternative Courses of Action

Solar Cell Company may be able to overcome resistance and could experience over expenses
in implementing control charts. Many employees also had resigned due to overload works
due to their substitute partners would not be able to arrive at work. Since the management
impose the awareness program for the employees to know the expectation and benefits of
control charts, raising this awareness is necessary because the company would benefit and
increase the company’s productivity through evaluating and monitoring. The management
can also hire some professionals to train the employees for some new system that they don’t
know for them to fully understand to have a knowledge and become confident in their
ability to manage it.
Advantages of implementing awareness program to the employees:

• It will improve productivity, as when employees are aware of the goals and values,
they are more likely to align their efforts to the objectives of the company.
• It adapts change, by this awareness program set by the management, this can reduce
resistance to change and responsive workforce.
• Professional Development. It demonstrates an organization’s commitment to its
employees’ growth and can increase loyalty and customer satisfaction.
• When this awareness program focuses on compliance and ethical behavior, it will help
the employees understand the importance of following guidelines and ethical
standards that will lead to more trustworthy and reputable organization.
Disadvantages of implementing awareness program to the employees:

• Cost expenditures. Developing and implementing awareness program can be

expensive. This includes the training materials and hiring external trainers.
• Resistance Change. Some employees may resist new initiatives in the workplace
especially if they perceived this awareness program as a forced imposition.
• Providing too much information during the awareness program can overwhelm
employees and hinder their ability to retain concepts.

V. Recommendation

The best suggestion that they need to take is that they need to fully train the newly hired
employees for them to know the procedure of the production in the company. Management
must be strict towards to their employees when it comes in attendance because minor
employees resigned due to overload works when the substitutes are not able to report
which will also result to over cost because they need to hire again another employee. By
that, employees will become active to report at work. In addition, it is important for the
management to train their employees so that they are aware and have some knowledge to
prevent inaccurate reports.
VI. Management Lessons Learned

To avoid those organizational problems in Solar Cell Company. They need to invest thorough
training to employees on data collection and quality assurance . They need to keep the
employees updated on industry and technological advancements. Also, they need to promote
transparent communication , foster an open communication culture where employees feel
comfortable reporting concerns errors. Lastly is the management needs to prioritize the
employees work-life imbalances , they need to monitor the employee workload to prevent
burnout and ensure a healthy work-life balance. Management should also encourage the
employees breaks and time-off to maintain productivity and reduce the risk of errors due to
fatigue. In don’ts, management don’t need to neglect employee feedback. They should actively
seek and consider input from employees to improve overall efficiency and accuracy. Another
one is they don’t need to ignore workload management as it can lead to the decreased
employee performance and will increase errors.
