Evaluation of a Lesson/Group Activity

Post-lesson Evaluation Questions

1. What happened or did not happen? Why?

Ans. The students were fully engaged in the lesson. There was absolutely no disruption in the
class. The students participated well in answering the questions. They were awarded house
points for correct answers as it was a revision lesson for Science.

2. What are the possible reasons for the success or lack of success?

Ans. The students were reminded that they had their assessment tests on the following week so
they were seriously focusing in the lesson. They participated actively as they got house points
for correct answers. The students were given a clear understanding of the learning objectives
and key words for that topic. There was no disruption in the classroom. The children were
advised to make a revision poster for the topics. There were differentiation activities for the
students with learning difficulties and extended tasks set for the students. So, the lesson went
successfully well.

3. In relation to questions 1 and 2, what changes can I make in the future?

Ans. The session went well. But as it was a lesson for short time, I could have add some video
clips to the lesson plan and quiz at the end of the lesson as it was a revision . This could have
increased the speed of the tak and which would have given more time to the session. Although
the students answered the questions and participated in the classroom activities. I could have
given them some objects to decide the states of matter and some ice to note the change in the
states of matter.

4. What more do I need to know about the subject, the curriculum, curriculum pedagogy,
progression, SEND needs, adaptive teaching, the impact of how children learn, managing
behaviour, etc?

Ans. I need to know more experiments and demonstrations that I could include to the lessons to
make them more interesting. I need to research about the small steps and simple goals that I
could use for children with special needs to help them with their learning. I would chose those
activities that engage children so that they do understand the lesson objectives and don’t get
disrupted in the lessons. Obviously, I will take care of their health and safety at all times and
also remind them about taking precautions while doing any classroom activities or experiments.
I will focus more on the classroom behaviour.

5. What additional or different materials and resources might I have used?

I would have used the online quiz. I might have also given some things like ice cubes (for
changes in the state of matter), a few solids, liquids, and balloons for gas to explain the
properties to states of matter.

6. What did the pupils learn? How do I know? Where will I find the evidence?

Ans. The pupil learnt the properties of different states of matter. They also learnt the changes in
the states of matter. I evaluated the pupils knowledge all the time by asking them questions
individually. Whenever i found a pupil had not understood a particular topic, I went back to the
basics and explained them and the rest of the class. So I ensured the students understood the
revision topics that were being taught.

7. What do I and the pupils need to do, know and understand before the next lesson/group
activity?

Ans. I need to tailor my lessons in such a way so as to engage the students fully in the learning
activities. I must be fair and firm while dealing with behaviour issues and abide by the school’s
behaviour policy for giving sanctions. The students need to focus in the class without any
disruptions. They need to respect everyone’s opinions and treat the school properties with
utmost care.

8. How does what I have learned from teaching this lesson/leading this group activity affect
what I have planned to do in the next lesson/group activity in this sequence?

Ans. I have learnt that I will have to build up on the pace of the activity and also do more
practical activities for my lessons. Also, as new trainee teacher, I need to think instead of
reacting towards any behaviour issues and be firm and fair in my decisions.

9. What have I learnt from teaching this lesson/leading this group activity? Which teaching
methods worked?

Ans. I have learnt that the practical approach of allowing the students to observe and analyse a
given situation worked well for group activities. Also evaluating activities like quiz, puzzles,
riddles etc also works well as they are enthusiastic in participating in these activities.

10. What have I learnt from this lesson/group activity that will help me in the future?

Ans. From this group activity, I have learnt to manage the class behaviour. I have also learnt to
distribute work/responsibility amongst students and answering questions of the students.
Taking the opportunity to think about a situation has allowed me to respond appropriately to the
situation.
