CHARACTERISTICS OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

USE OF STATISTICAL INFERENCES

The data gathered in quantitative research is analyzed using statistical inferences and
instruments, and is measurable. (Quantitative Research: Definition, Characteristics, Benefits.

CLOSE-ENDED QUESTIONS
In quantitative research, it is recommended to use close-ended questions as it is beneficial
when analyzing your gathered data. (Quantitative Research: Definition, Characteristics,
Benefits. (n.d) Voicedocs. https://voicedocs.com/en/blog/quantitative-research-definition-
characteristics-benefits-limitations-and-best-practices)

USE OF LARGE SAMPLE SIZE

Unlike qualitative research, quantitative research is distinguished by its potential to employ a
larger sample size. (Quantitative Research: Types, Characteristics, Methods, & Examples. (n.d)

PRESENT DATA IN GRAPHS, FIGURES, OR TABULAR FORMAT

The data gathered in quantitative research are presented through tables, graphs, or figures.

USE STANDARDIZED RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS

Quantitative research uses questionnaires, polls, or surveys as its instrument for gathering data
to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and validity of data gathered. (Regoniel, P, PhD (January 3,

The Differences of Quantitative and Qualitative Research

Qualitative and Quantitative research differs from one another in various ways. For instance,
qualitative research commonly relies on published books, documents, and other related
literature when gathering data and information. On the other hand, quantitative research uses
questionnaires, surveys, or polls to gather the information needed for the study.
In addition, qualitative research focuses more on details and answering the ‘why’ of a
phenomenon or behavior. In contrast, quantitative research focuses on answering the ‘what’ and
‘how’ of a phenomenon, and the data are analyzed using statistical methods.
