6. Visual inspection and Reporting

 Report on the storage stockpile to be sampled – is it under roof or outside in the open.
 Comment on the particle size
 Report on moisture appearance of the stockpile – is it wet or dry.
 Report if there is any sprinkling of water added to the stockpile.
 Report if there is any contaminants or foreign matter.
 Take photos of the stockpile, showing where it is stored, particle size, and appearance
in moisture and sampling procedures.

7. Sampling
Sampling Procedure: - (Reference Standard: ISO- 4296 & 4299)
Objective: stockpile sampling for moisture determination.
Sampling Technique- Manual sampling by taking increments from a position of a
stockpile where the machine is digging. – collecting increments randomly in in a zig-zag
pattern.

 Identify the consignment to be sampled.

 Ascertain the maximum particle size. If not as above, sampling plan might be
amended.
 Request the front end-loader machine to open the stockpile from different positions
all four sides and top.
 Since this is for moisture testing only, we apply small verification.
 Since analysis is for moisture only, we consider small variation as per ISO-Std.
 The entire cargo is 19 635.32 wmt (about 20 000wmt)
 Seeing that the stockpiles are placed in two bins with almost the same tonnage of
+- 9 800 wmt from each bin, then we shall create 2 sublots from each bin where
each sublot is represented by 4900 wmt.
 According to ISO we shall choose small variation since this sampling is for moisture
analysis only.
 15 increments per sublot of 9 800 wmt taking increments in a zig-zag pattern.
 Minimum mass per increment using an ISO scoop ~ approximately to 1kg
 Depending on the shape of the stockpile each sublot should have 3 trenches, and
the trenches should be distributed evenly.
 Gross sample mass per sublot = 1kg x 15 =15kg increments which is
approximately a minimum of 15kg each sublot
 In total 4 sublots will be generated for the entire cargo of 19 635.32 wmt
(about 20 000wmt)
 Increments to be taken in such a manner as to ensure that they have an almost
uniform mass. [< 20% variation in mass].
 Increments to be placed in clean plastic bags, well sealed and labelled to prevent
moisture loss and contamination.
 Each lot to be analysed for:

# Moisture --- oven dried at +/-105deg Cels. @12hrs or till constant mass
[Refer to ISO 4229]

SAMPLE PREPARATION: (ISO- 4296 and 4299)

 Caution!! The oven temperature must be checked by using a thermometer to

ensure that it is still within calibration range.
 The process of sample mixing should be as quick as possible to avoid loss of
moisture.
 Treat each sublot separately.
 All increments from a lot are to be combined and, using a shovel mix together on
a clean steel floor.
 Applying a grid pattern: Mix form a hip and flatten to form a thin layer, and make
grids of 20 x blocks. The thickness of layer of grid ~4cm.
 Take duplicate samples obtain 5kg per tray – collecting by alternative scooping
from the grids, making use of a support plate to the scoop.
 Immediately dry the sample in an oven at 105Degrees Celsius for 12hrs whereby
it will be sequentially dried for 4hrs, then record the mass, then dried it again for
5hrs, re-weigh, and dry again for 2hrs.
 If the mass is constant then that will be the final mass of drying if not dried yet,
then dry the samples for every hour or two until constant mass is reached. .
 Report the duplicate moisture results for each of the seven sublot samples on a
spreadsheet. Also provide with the raw data of moisture analysis.

8. Analysis
 Moisture Determination: (ISO 4299) --- oven drying @+/-105deg Cels. for 12hrs or
drying up to constant mass.

9. Reporting and Digital Photos

Daily updates to Commercial Administrator by 10h00 and 15h00. Updates to client about
the progress of the job at least daily.
Take pictures showing the stockpile condition – moisture condition (wet or dry),
contaminants, and operation; sampling and preparation stages.
Take photos of the whole operation and write sampling report.
Take pictures of any water addition

I hereby confirm that I have read and understand the contents of the Mission order.
Please sign and return the MO and the RA upon completion of the job.
