This procedure is to be used to replace the microcontroller pcb on the Smart Bilge Monitor.

It is assumed
that the person replacing the PCB is conversant with anti-static handling procedures and can be confident
that he has isolated any power supplies from the bilge monitor before starting any work. You should have
a safe practice of work that requires a work permit to be issued before carrying out any servicing on the
bilge monitor. A risk assessment should be carried out before starting any work.

Voltages that are hazardous to health exist on this pcb. In addition to a mains supply there might be a
separate supply to alarm 1 for the overboard discharge valve and to alarm 2 for the engine room alarm.
These might be isolated through the separator or might be isolated elsewhere. If in doubt then consult a
qualified electrician.

Tools required:
Small Philips screwdriver
Small flat bladed screwdriver (terminal screwdriver)
5.5mm open ended spanner or nut driver
Multimeter

Procedure:
Isolate mains supply and alarm supplies to monitor. Remove the cover to the left hand module of the
bilge monitor using the small Philips screwdriver to unscrew the four black Philips screws. Ensure that
these are kept safe. The cover is attached to the pcb via two ribbon cables. You will have to remove each
ribbon cable connector before detaching the cover from the bilge monitor. Remove the clear plastic safety
cover that protects users from the pcb using the small flat bladed screwdriver. Ensure that it is kept safe.
Observe the wiring that is attached to the monitor. Take a photo and/or sketch where each wire is
connected on the pcb. Before removing any wires measure the voltage across live and neutral and also
between any wire and the earth point on the case to check that the supplies have been isolated.
Remove the mains connector, alarm 1 connector, alarm 2 connector, cell connector SW1 & SW2
connectors if fitted.
Remove the display ribbon cable and keypad ribbon cable from the pcb.
Remove the four 5.5mm pillars using a pot driver or small spanner and then remove the pcb and store in
a safe place. (put in antistatic bag).
Remove new pcb from antistatic bag and fit in monitor case. Replace pillars and tighten. Do not over
tighten the pillars or they will break.
Refit display ribbon cable and keypad ribbon cable.
Refit the mains connector, alarm 1 connector, alarm 2
connector, cell connector SW1 & SW2 connectors if fitted.
Power up monitor and confirm that there are no errors shown
on the display. If the Comms Failure error is shown then check
that the cell connector is firmly seated in its socket on the
microcontroller pcb and the wires are correctly inserted in the
socket. The wires should be yellow, green blue, red with the
yellow wire on the left.
Confirm that both alarm relays operate correctly by operating
the manualclean and keeping is depressed until the alarms
activate.
