GROW EFFICIENT PROBLEM-SOLVING
SKILLS
IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM

• Defining the problem – most attempts at solving an issue fail because we don’t
identify correctly what the root cause is
• Different kinds of problems:
– I have a flat tire VS I am late for work

Will identifying the root cause help you resolve the issue?
Will fixing the consequences help resolve the issue?
Both?

EXERCISE - AMY AGAIN ☺
- The task was to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of a process
- She picked up a lot of ideas from different sources – long wishlists
- She presented a lot of ideas which were not structured or adapted to Ubisoft reality
- Presented several versions to her manager, but they were of low quality
- Her manager eventually had to rewrite most of the recommendations himself.

BOOST YOUR CREATIVITY AND
INNOVATION
WHAT IS CREATIVITY
ANYWAY?
• Coming up with a lot of different answers to the
same question
• Going outside the usual, traditional ways of doing
things or thinking about things
• Taking on different perspectives on the same issue
• All of the above

How many uses for a paper clip can you think of?
WHAT ARE THE KILLERS
OF CREATIVITY?

• Rules, policies, constraints

• ‘That's how we have always done it around here’ - don't disrupt
the ''traditional' way of doing things
• ‘But I’m not creative…’ – due to rarely being encouraged to think
creatively, we don’t think of ourselves as being able to be
creative
• Overanalyzing, evaluating – fear of being wrong*

Steps to solving something creatively or innovating:

• Assessment
• Definition
• Idea Generation
• Evaluation
• Implementation
