REFLECTION ON ELS 107

Intercultural relations are an important asset to an English Language Student such as myself because
English language is considered the international language, and so we are expected to communicate
with various cultures. The lessons from the modules, and words of wisdom from Sir Marvin go a long
way in developing our competence when it comes to Intercultural Communication. Most of the
lessons I find quite familiar with because some things are the same as having relationships with
others of the same culture, but intercultural relationships have more layers to it..
Human relationships are as important as our biological needs, so maintaining relationships with
others despite our differences in their culture is just as important. I reflected on how hard it is to
maintain relationships with others of the same culture so I wonder how much harder it would be to
maintain intercultural relationships.
The lessons certainly help me ease in and easily understand how to interact with others with a
completely different cultural background from me. One thing that I cannot forget is that Culture
permeates all aspects of human life. This statement is unforgettable for me because I find it so
profound and at the same time it is so true to what I observe and experience in my day-to-day life.
In conclusion, I think this subject will help me in the future to better understand other cultures and
appreciate other cultures without the lens of my original culture. Intercultural Communication is
imperative to each ABEL student, and it could also be helpful for others to better help them
understand each other more no matter the culture we came from.
