Horror stories analysis

There are many horror stories that are based on true events, some of which
have been adapted into movies or books. Here are some examples:

 The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005): This movie is based on the real-
life case of Anneliese Michel, a German woman who underwent a
series of exorcisms in the 1970s. She suffered from epilepsy,
depression, and psychosis, and claimed to be possessed by several
demons. She died of malnutrition and dehydration after refusing
medical treatment, and her parents and priests were charged with
negligent homicide.
 The Conjuring (2013): This movie is based on the investigations of Ed
and Lorraine Warren, a famous couple of paranormal experts who
claimed to have dealt with many cases of demonic hauntings. The
movie focuses on the Perron family, who moved into a farmhouse in
Rhode Island in 1971 and experienced terrifying phenomena, such as
levitation, apparitions, and poltergeist activity.
 The Girl Next Door (2007): This movie is based on the torture and
murder of Sylvia Likens, a 16-year-old girl who was abused by her
caregiver Gertrude Baniszewski and her children and neighborhood
friends in Indiana in 1965. She was locked in the basement, starved,
burned, beaten, and mutilated, until she died of a brain hemorrhage and
shock.
 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974): This movie is loosely inspired
by the crimes of Ed Gein, a serial killer and grave robber who operated
in Wisconsin in the 1950s. He was known for making trophies and
furniture out of human skin and bones, and for having a fascination
with female anatomy and cannibalism. He also inspired other horror
movies, such as Psycho (1960) and The Silence of the Lambs (1991).
