SUBJECT: MATH
TOPIC: Linear Equations
CLASS: 8TH GRADE
DURATION: 45 MINUTES
NUMBER IN CLASS: 2
SEX: MIXED
SEMESTER: 1ST
QUARTER: 1ST
TEACHER: MR. CHRIS ORYA
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to;
i. Interpret and write equation
ii. Solve equations.
iii. Identify and one-step equation.
LEARNING RESOURCES: Algebra 1 Textbook
REFERENCES: mathsproject.ie
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR: Learners were familiar with evaluating and simplifying algebraic
expressions.
PRESENTATION
INTRODUCTION

The teacher after introducing the topic tells the leaners that to write an equation, identify
the unknown for which you are looking for and assign a variable to it. Then, write the
sentence as equation. Also, look for key words such as is, as much as, is the same, or
identical to that indicate where you should place the equals sign.

STEP 1.
The teacher assists the learners in translating sentences into equations
Examples: Translate each sentence into an equation.
a) Seven times a number squared is five times the difference of k and m
7 × n2 = 5 × (k – m)
The equation is 7n2 = 5(k – m)

b) Fifteen times a number subtracted from 80 is 25

This means that 80 – 15 × d = 25
The equation = 80 – 15d = 25

STEP 3.
The teacher solves equations by using addition or subtraction. He tells the
learners that in an equation, the variable represents the number that satisfies the
equation. To solve an equation means to find the value of the variable that
makes the equation true.

EXAMPLE1: Solve the following;

a) c – 22 = 54
c – 22 + 22 = 54 + 22
c = 76

b) 63 + m = 79
63 – 63 + m = 79 – 63
m = 16

STEP 4:
The teacher explains the multiplication and division property of equality thus;
EXAMPLE:
a) Solve for q
