Test 3 – Essay

The two texts express contradictory views on the hotly debated

issue of people’s attitude towards food and eating.
The first author puts forward the irrefutable importance of sharing
family meals, stating that the benefits of eating together are countless, as
this provides individuals with feelings of belonging and security. By
drawing people closer, it creates deeper and more powerful bonds.
Likewise, on top of all the emotional needs sharing meals achieves to
fuel, it can also enhance a sense of ethnic and cultural identity by
promoting certain culinary traditions.
Conversely, the second author asserts that, on account of the
nowadays ever-changing world, our lifestyle has led us to an
unbelievably high degree of convenience food consumption,
notwithstanding the serious threats it can pose to our health. The text
emphasizes the emotional delightful aspects of cooking fresh food, such
as the fulfillment and the outstanding taste. Furthermore, cooking fresh
meals is regarded as a way to show respect and manifest genuine
hospitality towards guests.
From my standpoint, as demanding and fast evolving as life may
be in this day and age, it is nonetheless essential that we keep the habit
of sharing meals with our friends and family regularly and find time to
cook for ourselves instead of resorting to processed food.
To sum up, a balance between these two sides should be
maintained with a view not only to be knowledgeable and cautious about
our health, but also to increase our sense of joy, satisfaction and
attachment whenever we share meals with our dear ones.
