1.0 Purpose:
This is to provide standard guidelines for the measurement of the mass of substances using the
analytical balance.
2.0 Scope:
This procedure is applicable to the determination of the mass of substances in the
chemical laboratory of Quality Control department using the analytical weighing balance.
3.0 Responsibility: Chemist, Microbiologist, Quality Control Officer
4.0 Accountability: Quality Control Manager and General Manager
5.0 Procedure:
5.1 Put on the mains
5.2 Set the balance on a leveled surface by adjusting the leverage stand while taking note of the liquid to
centralize it within the circle.
5.3 Set the reading to zero using the tare button
5.4 Place the materials to be measured on the pan
5.5 Close all the slides to prevent interference with the environment
5.6 Take the reading on the balance and record
5.7 Remove the materials from the pan
5.8 Clean up and turn off the mains
