24 PHRASAL VERBS
Phrasal Verbs
Phrasal verbs are a combination of a verb and a preposition or adverb.
Together, these words make a phrase with a different meaning than the two
words seperately.

Example: break down

The van broke down.

The words "break" and "down" have their own meaning. When put together,
"break down" means to stop working.

There are 3 categories of phrasal verbs.

1. Intransitive: doesn't need an object

Example: go out
Where did you go out?

2. Transitive separable: needs an object and can be separated

Example: fill in
Can you fill this document in?

It isn't mandatory to separate these phrasal verbs. The sentence "Can you fill
in this documents?" also makes sense.

3. Transitive inseparable: needs an object and can't be separated

Example: break into

Someone broke into my house.

Here, we can't separate the two words. The sentence "Someone broke my
house into" doesn't make sense.
