A MIND DEPRAVED OF GOD

Romans 1:20
20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been
clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking
became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became
fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and
birds and animals and reptiles.24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual
impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a
lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever
praised. Amen.26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural
sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women
and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in
themselves the due penalty for their error.28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain
the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be
done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of
envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and
boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity,
no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve
death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Genesis 6:5
The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every
inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.

Genesis 19: 30
Lot and His Daughters
30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his
two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is
no man around here to give us children—as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let’s get our father to drink wine
and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father.”

Exodus 2:11
11 One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their
hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. 12 Looking this way and that and
seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. 13 The next day he went out and saw two
Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?”14 The man said,
“Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then
Moses was afraid and thought, “What I did must have become known.”
15 When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in
Midian, where he sat down by a well.

Exodus 32:1-8
The Golden Calf
32 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered
around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods[a] who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who
brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”2 Aaron answered them, “Take
off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to
me.” 3 So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4 He took what they
handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they
said, “These are your gods,[b] Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”5 When Aaron saw this, he built
an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD.” 6 So the next day
the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward they sat down
to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.7 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down, because your people,
whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. 8 They have been quick to turn away from what I
commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and
sacrificed to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’

1 Kings 18:18
“I have not made trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you and your father’s family have. You have
abandoned the LORD’s commands and have followed the Baals.

Jeremiah 23:9
9 Concerning the prophets:My heart is broken within me;
all my bones tremble.I am like a drunken man, like a strong man overcome by wine,
because of the Lord and his holy words.10 The land is full of adulterers; because of the curse[b] the
land lies parched and the pastures in the wilderness are withered. The prophets follow an evil course
and use their power unjustly.11 “Both prophet and priest are godless; even in my temple I find their
wickedness,”declares the Lord.12 “Therefore their path will become slippery;
they will be banished to darkness and there they will fall.I will bring disaster on them
in the year they are punished,”declares the Lord.13 “Among the prophets of Samaria
I saw this repulsive thing:They prophesied by Baal and led my people Israel astray.
14 And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen something horrible: They commit adultery
and live a lie. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that not one of them turns from their
wickedness. They are all like Sodom to me; the people of Jerusalem are like Gomorrah.”
15 Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says concerning the prophets:“I will make them eat bitter
food and drink poisoned water, because from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has spread
throughout the land.”16 This is what the Lord Almighty says:“Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying
to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of
the LORD.17 They keep saying to those who despise me, ‘The LORD says: You will have peace.’And to all who
follow the stubbornness of their hearts they say, ‘No harm will come to you.’18 But which of them has stood in the
council of the LORD to see or to hear his word? Who has listened and heard his word?19 See, the storm of
the LORD will burst out in wrath,a whirlwind swirling down on the heads of the wicked.20 The anger of
the LORD will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come
you will understand it clearly.21 I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message;I did not
speak to them, yet they have prophesied.22 But if they had stood in my council, they would have proclaimed my
words to my peopleand would have turned them from their evil ways and from their evil deeds.

Romans 8:5-6
Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live
in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the
flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Mark 8:33
But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do
not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Romans 12:1-3
A Living Sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy
and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good,
pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 16:17-18
17 I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your
way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. 18 For such people are
not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds
of naive people.

Colossians 2:18
Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a
person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by
their unspiritual mind.

2 Timothy 3
3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves,
lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without
love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash,
conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its
power. Have nothing to do with such people.6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and
gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil
desires, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and
Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved
minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9 But they will not get very far because, as in
the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

Titus 1:9-16
9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others
by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.10 For there are many rebellious people, full of
meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group. 11 They must be silenced,
because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for
the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil
brutes, lazy gluttons.”[c] 13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be
sound in the faith 14 and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of
those who reject the truth. 15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not
believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. 16 They claim to
know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing
anything good.
