DAY NURSERY FEES IN DUCKBURG

Uncle Scrooge has just bought all the day nurseries in Duckburg. Since Huey, Louie and Dewey go to one of these day nurseries, Donald Duck asks Uncle Scrooge what fees he will charge. Uncle Scrooge will charge each family a fixed sum of money, no matter the number of children or how long they stay at the day nursery. He chooses between two models: A. A fixed basic fee of SEK 1000 per month plus 3% of the familys monthly income. 8% of the familys monthly income, but at least SEK 800.

B.

Plot in the same chart how the nursery fees vary for families with different income. Compare the two models for families with different income. Uncle Scrooge finds out the number of families which have their children at day nurseries, and the incomes of these families. He wants to make a large amount of money. Do you think he should choose model A or model B?

Table: Incomes for families which have their children at day nurseries in Duckburg Income Number of families SEK 0-14 999 80 SEK 15 000-29 999 220 SEK 30 000-44 999 50

Suggest a reasonable model which gives Uncle Scrooge at least SEK 500 000 per month. Your model can be quite differently from Uncle Scrooges models.

When evaluating your work, the teacher will consider the following: how clear and correct your chart is how well you compare the models and justify your suggestions how well you present your work what mathematical knowledge you present
