Introduction

Astronomy, the study of celestial objects, has long captivated the curiosity of humans. It
fosters scientific curiosity and strengthens critical thinking abilities while providing a profound
sense of our role in the cosmos. The Astronomy has been an important contributor to the
development of humankind's conceptualization of the cosmos and of our place within it. In
addition, astronomy provides a foundation for education in other scientific subfields, including
physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Astronomy education is extremely important for
cultivating a love of the universe and promoting scientific literacy among students in the
Philippines.

Over the past few years, astronomy and astrophysics have been expanding in the Philippines.
According to (Sese et al. 2015) in terms of astronomical development, Philippines delays behind
several other Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, while
being ahead of numerous others. In spite of the fact that it is important and continues to develop,
educators in the Philippines face some challenges in teaching astronomy topic as it incorporates
complicated concepts and principles, which might be challenging to understand for students who
are just starting out. In addition, astronomy requires a significant amount of observation and data
processing, both of which can consume a lot of time and are often hard to perform because of t.
Guido (2019) stated that one of the most important ways to improve and keep the level of
astronomy education in the Philippines is to employ prepared and competent educators. With the
emerging of science and technology in recent times, instructors should keep getting new training
so they can keep up with important issues, technological progress, and the latest astronomical
discoveries. According to (Prather, Rudolph, and Brissenden 2009) not having sufficient training
is not the only thing that makes it hard to use interactive learning methods effectively in teaching
astronomy. Changing how teachers educate fundamentally will take effort on their part.

In the face of these challenges, educators have been employing a wide variety of approaches
and methodologies in order to effectively teach astronomy. Some teachers believe that getting
students actively involved in the learning process by having them construct telescopes or
participate in experiments is the best way to pique their interest in the topic. When it comes to
instructing students about astronomy, some teachers take a more conventional approach by
relying on lectures, textbooks, and other instructional materials. It is not apparent how successful
these various styles and strategies are in fostering student engagement and learning, however not
all of these strategies becoming effective as it should be. In addition, there is a limited
knowledge regarding the difficulties that educators of astronomy in the Philippines encounter
and the strategies they use to overcome those difficulties.
In this study, the researchers will attempt to investigate and identify the style and strategies of
astronomy educators in the Philippines that are significant to the effectiveness of their strategies
in teaching complex astronomy topics, as well to understand the challenges face by educators,
and their amplified methods in teaching the subject in astronomy to boost the student interest in
learning astronomy as well as to promote and strengthen the literacy among the students of
astronomy in the Philippines
