Top 10 Student Recipes

As a student who’s living in Sydney for a few months, you might want to put a halt to the
habit of eating in restaurants and canteens. The most convenient way to do that is learn
how to cook. Follow these simple recipes that will save your time and expenses on food,
apart from taking good care of your health.

Home Made Burger:


Take 8 burger buns, 8 lettuce leaves, 450 grams lean beef (minced), 1 beaten egg, 1
grated onion, half teaspoon English Mustard, 2 tablespoon vegetable oil, 25grams butter,
salt and pepper.
Mix the beef, beaten egg, onion and mustard along with the seasoning. Shape them into
burgers. Fry them in oil and butter on high flame for 1 minute. Lower the flame and fry
for about 8 minutes. Serve them sandwiched within the buns with lettuce dressing.

Spaghetti Bolognaise Recipe:


Take 500 grams minced beef, one grated onion, a cup of beef stock, 2-3 garlic cloves,
mushrooms, carrots, celery (not mandatory), 1 teaspoon of dried Italian herbs, 2-3
chopped tomatoes, 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Stir fry the onions for 1-2 minutes. Add beef and stir fry continuously till it turns brown.
Add the remaining ingredients, and simmer on low flame till the beef gets cooked. Add
salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy the dish with spaghetti.

Asian Chicken and Noodles Recipe:


Take 1 packet of noodles soup mix, 1 carrot (thinly sliced), a packet of grilled chicken
breasts, 2 green onions sliced.
Boil water in a pan and add noodles and carrots and cook for 3 minutes. Add the chicken
breasts and 1 teaspoon of noodles seasoning. Cook for few minutes until it gets mixed
thoroughly. Garnish with green onions before serving.

Simple Pasta:
Boil water in a sauce pan and add a packet of Durum wheat pasta. Add 1 teaspoon of salt
and cook for 3 minutes till it is soft. Drain the pasta in a strainer.
Heat 2 tablespoon of oil in a pan and fry 2 medium sized sliced onions. Add 3-4 cloves of
chopped garlic and par-boiled carrots (sliced). Add salt, pinch of sugar and 2 teaspoon of
pasta Bolognaise sauce. Sprinkle some pepper powder and cook for two minutes. Add
parsley and a dash of cheese before serving.

Chilly Con Carne Recipe:


Take 500 grams of minced beef, 1 chopped onion (large size), 3-4 chopped tomatoes, 1
chopped red pepper, a can of kidney beans (drained), 3-4 garlic cloves (chopped), 1
teaspoon chilly powder, 1 teaspoon cumin powder, tomato puree, little Worcester sauce,
salt and pepper.
Fry the onions in oil till brown in color and add garlic. Add beef and stir till brown.
Lower the flame; add remaining spices, seasoning and the tomatoes. Stir for a minute and
add tomato puree, Worcester sauce and simmer the mixture for about an hour. Add
chopped red pepper and salt and simmer for 5 minutes. Add kidney beans and simmer for
5 minutes more. Enjoy with rice or pasta.

Simple Sandwich:
Ingredients: brown bread slices, cheese slices, salad dressing, strips of bacon, shredded
lettuce leaves, salt and pepper.
Take slices of toasted brown bread. Apply a generous layer of molten cheese on one side
of the bread. Mix salad dressing and lettuce leaves in a bowl. Apply this mixture on the
cheese layer. Cook bacon strips for few minutes in oven, and place them over the
dressing. Place another cheese layered bread slice on it. Your sandwich is ready.

Ham Sandwich:
Ingredients: Few bread slices, few slices of ham, cheese slices, mayonnaise.
On a toasted bread slice, apply some mayonnaise and place one slice of ham. Place a
cheese slice on it and cover it with another slice of bread. Sprinkle some pepper
according to your choice. You can also add cucumber slices.

Chicken Parmesan:
Ingredients: 1 chicken breast, 1egg, 2 tablespoon olive oil, parmesan cheese (grated),
cheese crackers, pepper
Mix crushed cheese crackers, generous amount of parmesan cheese and pepper powder in
a bowl. Beat the egg in a separate bowl whisking it up. Cut the chicken breast into half.
Dip one chicken part in the cheese mixture and then in beaten egg and fry it till the
chicken is cooked. Serve with salads.

Cheese Potato Baked:


Ingredients: Medium sized potatoes -2, onion-1, milk- 200ml, Butter – 1 tablespoon,
grated cheese, salt and pepper.
Cut the potatoes in thin slices and boil in water till soft. In a saucepan, take onion cubes
and the potatoes and add milk. Cover the saucepan and boil. Let it simmer for 3 minutes.
Grease an ovenproof dish with butter and place a layer of potatoes on it. Place half the
onions over it and add cheese, salt and pepper. Place another layer of potato on it. Add
remaining onions, cheese, salt and pepper. Bake the dish for half an hour at a temperature
of 190C till the potatoes turn brown.

Thai Green Curry Recipe:


Ingredients: Chicken breasts – 2, Coconut milk- 1 tin, Onion -1, Aubergine -1, green
chilly (chopped) - 1, Thai green curry paste.
Cook the green curry paste in low heat for five minutes. Add onion and the chicken
breasts (cut into strips). Cook the mixture for 5-8 minutes. Then add chopped aubergine.
Add coconut milk and simmer for 10 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked. Garnish
with chopped chilies.
