ACTIVITY 1

Philosophical Perspective

Cadeliña, Girlee Jhene B. BSMLS-LAB THSELF 1

"In the symphony of existence, I harmonize with the rhythms of joy, for in
happiness, I find the essence of a life well-lived." This philosophy is all about making
happiness a central focus. All about seeking happiness in the little things,
connecting with awesome people, growing personally, practicing gratitude, and
contributing to the happiness of those around us. And understanding myself
involves adopting different perspectives. By combining the philosophies of
Socrates and Descartes, I find a balanced approach to navigating life.

Socrates believed in knowing oneself. This means questioning, reflecting,

and understanding who we are. In my daily life, I apply Socrates' idea by
questioning my beliefs and values, leading to a deeper understanding of myself.
His philosophy emphasized self-examination, virtue, and the pursuit of knowledge
for a fulfilling life. Despite facing accusations and death, Socrates remained
humble and committed to challenging traditional beliefs. His legacy promotes
the importance of self-awareness and the ongoing quest for wisdom. One
specific situation can be when at school, and we are unsure whether to report a
schoolmate for doing something wrong. To use Socrates' method, the person
would first think about their own values and why they feel the schoolmate's
actions are not right. Then, instead of just stating their opinion, they would talk to
others involved, asking questions to understand different points of view. By doing
this, we hope to make a thoughtful and good decision. Socrates' idea of asking
questions and thinking deeply becomes a helpful way to figure out what to do in
tricky situations. It's like a tool for making smart choices and learning more about
ourselves in the process.

Descartes on the other hand, believed that our unique human quality is our
ability to think, reason, and question. Descartes emphasized the importance of
thinking. In practical terms, this means using logical thinking to make decisions.
When faced with choices or challenges, I rely on logical reasoning to guide my
actions, following Descartes' philosophy. For Descartes, thinking like those proves
that you exist. One specific situation can be when we are trying to decide if
something is true, like questioning if a piece of news is accurate. Descartes would
suggest using your thinking skills to check the information, question if it's reliable,
and then decide what you believe. In daily life, Descartes' philosophy tells us to
trust our thinking abilities when understanding the world. It's like having a powerful
tool, our mind, to handle doubts and make smart choices.

Combining Socrates' call to know oneself with Descartes' emphasis on

thinking creates a powerful approach. Questioning leads to self-discovery, and
logical thinking helps me make informed decisions based on that self-awareness.
