TO DETERMINE SOME EXAMPLES OF CAREERS AFTER GRADUATING IN

SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

According to Mokhtar, Ahmad and Mustapha, (2010), strong force of technological and
globalization of the markets made all the organization start to come up with better and more
flexible working policies including long training time to prepare the personnel with higher
efficiency.

According to Gilliam M. Cortez(2019), the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd)

announced over 19,000 entry level jobs and 400 work immersion position for senior high school
graduates and students which recently opened through “First Future” which aims to provide
training and career opportunities to senior high school graduates by private sector partners from
various industries.

According to Indeed.com’s job list (2020), the most in demand careers for K-12 graduates
are: sales associate, non-voice representative, receptionist, online english teacher, call center
agent, customer service representative, sales clerk.

According to Jobstreet.com (2017), technology job remain as one of the top paying job, which
resulted to more job vacancies in the computer and tech-related industries like animator,
customer service graphic artist etc.
TO DETERMINE IF THE CREDENTIAL FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES
MEETS THE GENERAL STANDARD NEEDED FOR JOBS

According to Rene Ofreneo (2018), the most basic in job readiness is what the student acquires
in the school system in terms of “core skills”. These include literacy, numeracy, communication
skills, teamwork, problem-solving and other learning ability skills. To seasoned human resource
managers of big enterprises, possession of such skills make the would-be workers “trainable” for
the regular jobs that may be open to them. After all, work means the ability to execute a series of
instructions in an organized manner. Without these skills, a young labor entrant is likely to fail –
be it in the factory or in a BPO cubicle.

According to japionline.org (2016), with the help of K-12 curriculum the students were trained
well to have good english communication skills to do public speaking, interview skills and
conversational and business communication skills. The students will also go on work immersion,
to provide relevant exposure and actual work experience in their chosen strand.

According to the advocacy group Philippine Business for Education (2018), that even if most of
the senior high-school students are ready to work, the market is not as prepared to receive or
employ them. Only 20 percent of the 70 leading companies in the country are open to hiring
these graduates.
TO STUDY THE NATURE OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR SHS GRADUATES

According to Sollicitudo Rei Socialis, preparing youth for the future is everyone’s responsibility.
The execution of our principle of solidarity is what we need because we must have a strong and
relentless determination to take action for the goodness of most because we are responsible for
the goodness of all.

According to Rachel Pacai de Guinan (2016), we need to change the mindset and educate the
employers that SHS graduates are not less qualified compared to college graduates for as long as
the applicant is equipped with necessary skills. There should be opportunities given to them to
allow them to go up the educational ladder and at the same time the work ladder.

According to Ong Ye Keung (2018) Their Teach Less, Learn More program has been
implemented to allow teachers to allocate more time to activities that hone the technology and
soft skills such as creative and critical thinking to continually adapt to the evolving skills needed
in their economy.

According to Aniceto Orbeta Jr. et al (2018), attitudes/work ethics would be the primary
condition for hiring, followed by interpersonal and problem-solving skills. While there were
employers receptive to hiring SHS graduates, the latter will have to compete with fresh college
graduates, whom employers may prefer, for the same jobs they are applying for.
