General language requirements for admission

 All candidates must prove proficiency in the teaching languages of their chosen programme at the University of Luxembourg. The language skills required by
each programme is listed on the dedicated programme web page according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Language competences should be documented by candidates in one or more of the following ways:

1. Application for bachelor programmes:

a. For students with a secondary school diploma obtained in Luxembourg less than 5 years ago:
 Secondary/high school certificate from a school at which the primary language of instruction was the same as the teaching language(s) of the selected study
programme at the University of Luxembourg.
 Official high school transcript record (2 last years of secondary school) to justify proficiency in the teaching language(s) of the selected study programme at the
University of Luxembourg.
 Internationally recognised language test certificate* (no more than 2 years old) to justify proficiency in the teaching language(s) of the selected study
programme at the University of Luxembourg.
b. For students with a secondary school diploma obtained outside Luxembourg or obtained in Luxembourg more than 5 years ago:
 Secondary/high school certificate from a school at which the primary language of instruction was the same as the teaching language(s) of the selected study
programme at the University of Luxembourg.
 Internationally recognised language test certificate* (no more than 2 years old) to justify proficiency in the teaching language(s) of the selected study
programme at the University of Luxembourg.

2. Application for master programmes:

 University degree (Bachelor or Master level) certifying the completion of a programme in which the primary language of instruction was the same as the
teaching language(s) of the selected programme at the University of Luxembourg.
In case a certificate is required from the institution attesting the language(s) of instruction, it cannot be more than 2 years old.
 Internationally recognised language test certificate* (no more than 2 years old) to justify proficiency in the teaching language(s) of the selected study
programme at the University of Luxembourg

* Please consult the list of accepted international language test certificates in the ‘Accepted language tests (PDF)’ document.

Note on the internationally recognized language test certificates (for European candidates only): In case the test takes place after the submission deadline of the
admission file, the candidate may be “admitted under conditions” to the selected programme(s) until s/he is able to provide the official language test result. Candidates,
however, must submit their language certificates before the deadline provided by their programme. For some programmes this rule does not apply (i.e., language
competencies must be documented at the moment the application file is submitted).

Disclaimer: Study programmes may have specific prerequisites about language test certificates and minimum scores to obtain. For more details, please refer to the
official web page for each study programme.
