Task 2

Wealthy countries should accept more refugees and provide them with basic
assistance, such as food and housing. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Over the years, there has been an international debate, as asylum seekers around the world
settle down in developed countries to supply their basic needs and look for a better quality of
life. In my view, I strongly agree that wealthy countries should encourage and assist
refugees, as these are nations that can afford this humanitarian help, and in the future, those
refugees might boost the economy of those countries.

Firstly, it is widely known that developed nations offer great opportunities and these nations
have enough economic resources to aid those in need. Thus, refugees aim to establish
themselves in these countries to improve their life conditions and make sure that their
human rights are not violated, because these countries offer them security and economic
stability that will guarantee a more prosperous future. A case in point is Ukrainian refugees
who fled to countries such as the UK, and the British government assisted them so that their
basic needs and human rights could be preserved.

Furthermore, asylum seekers are individuals who might help to improve the economies of
developed nations. For that reason, governments of wealthy nations should accept and help
those in need, as many of these refugees can be skilled workers, who in the long run, will
become a source of income for those countries. For instance, countries such as Australia or
Canada, promote immigration laws and collaborate in humanitarian causes as they are
aware that their economies rely on the arrival of foreign workers.

To conclude, governments of developed nations around the world should accept and support
asylum seekers, because they have strong economies that allow them to provide
humanitarian help, and eventually those refugees will give them back their investment by
offering their talents as skilled and unskilled workers once they become citizens of those
nations.

Governments give a lot of support to artists, even though some people think it is
a waste of money that could have been used elsewhere.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
The graph illustrates the activities that university alumni who received a degree in
anthropology did 5 years after graduating and the wages they received after 5 years of
working.

Overall, the vast majority of students were employed in a full-time job, followed by part-time
jobs and unemployment as the most common destinations after graduation. Besides, their
salaries have proven to be higher in the government sector, compared to that of those who
work as freelance consultants and in private companies.

Full-time jobs accounted for over half of the activities that graduates conducted. Conversely,
part-time jobs and unemployment accounted for over a quarter with 15% and 12%
respectively. Other activities only comprised 21% of the activities.

In terms of salaries, freelance consultants accounted for 80% of the jobs that graduates did,
showing salaries from $75.000 to %100.000, this category is only overpassed by the
government sector, which also employs 80% graduates with higher salaries, but the latter
offers the highest wages to 10% more graduates than the former. Private companies offered
the lowest salaries of all.

Children have been culturally taught that they are capable of attaining any kind of goal if they
strive to make it happen. This conception might bring advantages such as more determined
individuals and future hard-working generations. However, it also has some drawbacks that
outweigh these advantages such as reluctance to deal with failure and more ambitious
generations. All these aspects will be discussed in this essay.

Children who are encouraged to work hard to achieve their goal show higher levels of
resilience and do not give up easily when adversities come across. Furthermore, determined
people are proven to be hard-working and efficient in their jobs, as they perform
outstandingly in order to please those who believe in them. For instance, in Latin America,
athletes such as Mariana Pajon are an example of resilience and goal-centered people.

Notwithstanding, people who try hard are used to achieving what they want and if that does
not happen, they struggle to deal with failure as they acknowledge that they deserve what
they aim because they did what it took to achieve it. Besides, individuals who achieve many
goals throughout their lives are proven to be ambitious and less happy with their
attainments, because individuals become familiar with success, nothing seems to satisfy
them. A case in point is Mark Zuckerberg, whose life of luxury did not fulfill his expectations
and ended up living a more austere life.

To conclude, although resilient and hardworking generations are predominant when kids are
encouraged to try their best to achieve their goals, these advantages are faded by the fact
that it might affect their capacity to deal with failure and become unsatisfied once they have
achieved the goals they have set.
