SIPROTEC Tools
V01.90
SIPROTEC Tools is a suite of desktop-based utility tools used to perform functions
targeted on SIPROTEC 5 devices (all types, all versions) without any DIGSI 5.

It supports the following functionalities:

1. Load DAF file to SIPROTEC 5 device to increase the number of function points.

2. Support for hardware and wiring test of SIPROTEC 5 device.

a. For devices from factory without configuration:

i. test Binary Inputs and Outputs, Analogs (CT/VT, LPIT and


transducers), LEDs

ii. Comparison of hardware and product code to validate the correct


current terminal blocks

b. For device with configuration: test Binary Inputs and Outputs

3. Load DIGSI 5 configuration files (TCF format from DIGSI 5 V9.20 and higher, both
signed or unsigned) to multiple devices in parallel (up to 50).

4. Download SIPROTEC 5 device data: logs, configuration (signed or unsigned),


diagnostics and records, for multiple devices.

5. Upload firmware to multiple devices in parallel (up to 50)

6. Notification for new version

SIPROTEC Tools is delivered as bundle in a ZIP folder. To launch the application, navigate
to SIPROTEC Tools folder and run the SIPROTECTools.exe shown in the screenshot below:

1 Hardware Requirements

Minimum PC / Computer Hardware:


To work with SIPROTEC Tools, you need a PC or laptop computer with the following
minimum specifications independent from the used operating-system version:

 Intel® Core™ i3-6100U, 2.30 GHz S-ATA


 1 GB available disk space
 4 GB of RAM
 Graphic display HD ready 1280 x 1024 or 1376 x 768 Pixels
 USB port
 LAN port

2 Software Requirements

Startup Environment
1) Operating System
a) Microsoft® Windows 11 Professional/ Enterprise 64-Bit
b) Microsoft® Windows 10 Professional/ Enterprise 64-Bit
c) Microsoft® Windows 10 Enterprise 2019 LTSC 64-Bit
d) Microsoft® Windows Server 2019 Standard 64-Bit
e) Microsoft® Windows Server 2022 Standard 64-Bit

2) .NET Framework 4.8 Runtime.

3) If no DIGSI 5 is installed on the system, SIPROTEC USB Drivers have to be installed to
connect to SIPROTEC 5 devices using USB.
SiprotecUSBDriver_Setup.zip is available as a part of the SIPROTEC Tools bundle
4) If the mentioned above pre-requisites are met, you do not need administrator rights
to launch the application.
5) Virus-Scanner Software
No incompatibilities between commercially available Malware Protection Software
and SIPROTEC Tools are known. Trend Micro Office Scan has been explicitly tested.

Network Environment
SIPROTEC Tools uses HTTPS connections for the communication. Address conflicts and
faulty proxy settings can block this communication. For USB following IP-address bands
are used:

- USB:
Network-adaptor name: SIPROTEC5 devices connected via USB
Address band: 192.168.2.*
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

These address bands must not be used by another active network adaptor.

Proxy Settings

If you use a proxy, make sure that the IP-address bands named before are defined as
exceptions in the proxy settings.

In any case, make sure that the proxy settings match your network configuration. Contact
your network administrator for further assistance.

Certificate Environment
To sign TCF configuration files with SIPROTEC Tools, certificates need to meet following
criteria :
 A valid expiration date
 A Digital Signature, as described as Key Usage
 Available Private Key

Support remote operations via low bandwidth and high latency Wide Area network.
Removed limitation for downgrade Firmware from latest version to a much older version
(e.g. 9.40 to 7.80).
Restrict firmware downgrade of new SIPROTEC 5 Compact device 7SX800 with optical
Ethernet and hardware version AB to minimum supported version 9.40. A configuration
downgrade to versions <V9.40 is still possible.
Support for update of protocol firmware for Process Bus Client , Merging Unit, Busbar and
PPS protocols during upload of Firmware.
Improved usability for file browse in Upload firmware and Upload configuration tiles.

Known Problems and Limitations

 Display device logs in web browser.

Situation Downloaded COMFEDE files can be opened in Internet Explorer but not in
Chrome or Edge.

Solution Open the COMFEDE files in a web browser supporting XSLT processing (e.g.
Internet Explorer)
or check with your security department, if you can add in Chrome the option
“--allow-file-access-from-files" as target of the shortcut properties

 Limitation in an environment with DIGSI 5.

Situation Not able to connect to devices via USB after uninstalling DIGSI 5.

Solution Reinstall the USB Drivers from the package.

 Limitation with devices with DIGSI 5 Client authentication with custom certificates.

Situation Not able to connect to SIPROTEC 5 devices with custom certificates.

Solution None, except disabling custom certificates.

 Domain controller required for RBAC configuration

Situation To load a SIPROTEC 5 configuration with activated RBAC, a Domain controller
for Radius server should be available.

Solution Deactivate RBAC from configuration for loading the first test configuration by
the panel builder
