The Internet
Lots of people know what the Internet is. Many people send e-mail messages and read websites every day, but
do they know how it started or who invented it? The Internet is probably one of the most important inventions
of recent time. It started in the 1960s, when some scientists were asked to design a network of computers like a
spider’s web that would work even after nuclear attack. This was a military project and it was called
ARPANET. At this stage, the Internet was made up of just four big American university computers that were
connected, but it was very complicated to use.
Tim Berners-Lee is considered to be the person who invented the Internet that we know today. In 1989, he
came up with the idea of using links to go from one page to another, and the World Wide Web was born.
Nowadays the Internet is used for business, news and research, and of course, millions of e-mail messages are
sent every day.

- Now you will work in 2 groups. You are to make a list of advantages and disadvantages of the Internet. For
doing it I’ll give to each group one sheet of paper and colorful markers. The 1st group will write down all
possible advantages of the Internet. The 2nd group will write down all possible disadvantages of the Internet.
And then one person from each group will present what you have done.
VII. Рефлексия (слайд 18)-Let’s make up cinquain.Cinquainis a kind of poem, which consists of 5
lines that don’t rhyme. What are 5 lines?
