COMPUTER APPLICATION WITH CYBER SECURITY

EXAMPLE OF COMPUTER VIRUSES

● Nimda – This particular type of worm targeted web servers and computers
running Microsoft Windows operating systems, spreading through multiple
infection vectors in 2001.
● ILOVEYOU – A highly destructive worm that spread via email, disguised as a
love confession and caused widespread damage in 2000 by overwriting files.
● SQL Slammer – A fast-spreading computer worm that exploited a vulnerability
in Microsoft SQL Server, causing network congestion and disrupting Internet
services in 2003.
● Stuxnet – A sophisticated worm designed to target and sabotage industrial
control systems, particularly Iran’s nuclear program, by exploiting zero-day
vulnerabilities in 2010.
● Cryptolocker –This ransomware Trojan, which infected hundreds of
thousands of computers in 2013, encrypted victims’ files and demanded a
ransom for their decryption.
● Conficker – Emerging in 2008, this worm exploited vulnerabilities in Windows
operating systems, creating a massive botnet and causing widespread
infection.
● Tinba – First discovered in 2012, this banking Trojan primarily targeted
financial institutions, aiming to steal login credentials and banking information.
● Welchia – A worm that aimed to remove the Blaster worm from infected
systems and patch the exploited vulnerability but caused unintended network
congestion in 2003.
● Shlayer – A macOS-specific Trojan that primarily spreads through fake
software updates and downloads, delivering adware and potentially unwanted
programs since 2018.

EXAMPLE OF ANTIVIRUS

1. Malware signature antivirus: Malware signature antiviruses detect

malware signatures. These signatures are known digital fingerprints left
behind by the activity of malware or viruses. The antivirus is made to
recognize a list of malware signatures, and once it scans and detects this
signature, it can act against it.
2. System monitoring antivirus: This can monitor unusual computer activity
or behavior similar to a running virus program. It is more flexible than the
malware signature antivirus as it is not limited to known viruses but can also
apprehend new or unregistered activity.
3. Machine learning antivirus: Machine learning antivirus has algorithms
that can track unusual (if enabled) activity and accesses multiple similar
computer systems running a similar antivirus. This keeps the antivirus
abreast of both new and old types of malware.
4. Avast antivirus: developed by Avast is a family of internet security
applications covering a wide range of computer operating systems and is
currently one of the biggest names in the antivirus industry.
5. Avg antivirus:business edition is antivirus software that protects your
business against malware, ransomware, and hackers in real-time. With
attractive prices and superior customer support, it is used by multiple
companies worldwide.
6. Bitdefender: is a private computer software company founded over 20
years ago with headquarters in Romania and offices across the globe.
Bitdefender Total Security provides all-around protection for computers and
mobile devices.
7. Kaspersky antivirus: is produced by a Russian cyber security company
operating in over 200 companies. The antivirus protects users from online
security threats, from entry-level to premium versions.
8. McAfee: is a popular antivirus software owned by McAfee Corp. in San
Jose, California. The software promises optimum protection with
money-back guarantees and constant customer support.
9. Malwarebytes: is an anti-malware software released in 2006 by
Malwarebytes Corporation. The software works on numerous operating
systems, including Microsoft Windows and ChromeOS.
10. Trend Micro Antivirus Security: is a consumer product by Trend micro. It
is a multi-device and OS-compatible software designed to prevent malware
attacks.
