The cities of Amritsar and Ludhiana :in Punjab have e~tablished Water Companies to provide

water and wastewij,ter services in their respective cities. This initiative is part of The Punjab
Municipal Services Improvement ·Project (PMSIP), funded by the World Bank and Asian Infra
Investment Bank (A'IIB). Major water· supply investments are underway with an outlay of US$
300 million-to deliver clean surface water to over 30 la~h people in these two cities.

The Government of Punjab recently: approved the establishment of Water Companies. The

cities have incorporated the Wat;er Companies Jnder Companies. Act. The ·municipal
corporations of these cities fully own their respective Jater companies. The Managing Director

of the Company_ is the Municipal Comrt,issioner in Ex ~fficio capacity. A Chief Executive Officer
would be responsible for heading the company. ,
