RESEARCH ACTIVITY NO. 1

1. What are the roles of an Oil Production Engineer?

Oil Production Engineering is one of the vital roles in a petroleum industry

where they maximize the oil and gas production in a most efficient way. To do
this, they should have a wide knowledge of understanding the way how
production works. It requires a full understanding especially in properties of oil
they are producing and also the working principles that is being used during
production and major components of wells and surface facilities.

2. Name three applications of pipelines.

There are three applications of pipelines such as domestic, commercial

and industrial. The first one is just inside the country which is called domestic
pipeline most of the time it is used in homes, a passage way of gas to do some
cooking. Then the next one is the commercial pipeline mostly used in
transportation gas to vehicles. Lastly, the industrial pipelines used in refineries in
order to transport some liquids into a certain place.

3. Explain the Diagrams below:

1. Upstream is where it all starts, they gather data below in order to launch or
plan an exploration of petroleum. It has activities such as exploration, drilling,
extraction and production. This is where they extract petroleum into surface
the refine it into different types of fluid.

Midstream is a segment where activities such as storage and transportation

are being held. Some companies specializes this kind of work especially in
tanker ships, pipelines or storage facilities.
2. This is a wellbore that connects to the surface into reservoir. It is a pipe that
allows upward movement of fluids from below. It should be compatible in the
type of well so it can work properly and in its best performance. Tubing is
used to produce reservoir fluid assembled with other components in order to
produce. The performance also depends on the size of the tubing used. The
bigger the tube the more it will produce.

3. This are the different types of platform used to extract petroleum reservoirs
below Gravity-based Platforms, Steel Jacket Fixed Platform, Compliant
Towers, Tension Log Platforms, Semi-submersibles, FPSO and Spar
Platform. Since we have different types of landscape or structure of the
location they need to plan a suitable platform in that certain area so they can
minimize the risk in the location as well as the work place.
4. What are the separators and pumps used for in the oil production operations?

Separators are used to remove gas and water from crude oil but it’s not
completely refined this is just a start. Pumps are the one who helps or do the
transportation of oil and gas through pipelines also helps to keep the
movement or flow of oil and gas into a certain direction.
