Q4. Read the case study and answer the questions. (6 marks)

The Somalia crisis in the 1990s was marked by civil war, famine, and political instability. The
central government collapsed in 1991, leading to violent conflict among various groups. The
international community, including the UN, attempted humanitarian intervention with the
United States in 1992. However, the mission faced challenges, and the Battle of Mogadishu in
1993 resulted in significant deaths. Crimes often went unpunished, contributing to a cycle of
violence and revenge. Disputes were settled through force rather than legal processes. The
absence of a justice system also hampered economic development, and it became very difficult
to establish a government.

a. Do you think the justice system is important? Use the above case study to support your
answer.
b. To avoid a situation like Somalia, what aspects of India would you consider if you were
setting up its judicial system?
