A.

Background of Competition

The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Bandar Lampung proudly
presents the UBL International English Championship (UIEC) 2023. This competition
allows students around the world to improve their creativity and skills, particularly in the
field of English with the main theme "Education" and the slogan "Words: The Infinite
Palette of Expression". UIEC is virtually conducted and is expected to be attended by
students from at least 4 countries in which there are several branches of competition:

1. Research Paper Competition


2. Solo song
3. News Casting
4. Story Telling
5. Speech Contest
6. Scrabble (Indonesia Only)

C. General Requirements

1. This competition is an International level held for public with around age of 16-26 years
old.
2. All participants must follow Instagram: @uiecofficial @fkipubl.
3. The registration form can be filled at the link https://bit.ly/RegUIEC2023
4. Each Participant is only allowed to register in 2 branches of the competition.
5. Each participant is only allowed to submit 1 work in each competition field.
6. All competition participants are required to attend a technical meeting via zoom.
7. All participants must submit the work to the g-form that provided by the committee, the
link will be shared after the Technical Meeting on October 29th 2023.
8. To all the participants of Speech, Story Telling and News Casting have to submit the
video together with the script into the g-form.
9. From the all branches competition participants, 3 (three) contestants will be selected as the
1st Champion, 2nd Champion, and 3rd Champion.
10. Winners of the competition will be announced at a zoom meeting or IG streaming and
uploaded on Instagram: @uiecofficial
11. For participants who take part in the offline Scrabble competition, it will be held November
8th 2023 at the University of Bandar Lampung.
12. All fields of competition in UIEC 2023 will compete for:
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive cash prizes.
- E-Certificate for all participants and winners.
- Trophies for Scrabble only.
13. Participants who are indicated to be cheating will be immediately disqualified by the
competition’s committee.
14. All participants are willing to follow the rules / regulations of the competition that have
been made by the competition’s committee.
15. The decisions of the committee and the jury cannot be contested.

RESEARCH PAPER COMPETITION

A. Special Provisions
1. Each participant must submit one manuscript only, with the Theme: "Overcoming
Education after Pandemic Era"
2. The work must be original, that has never been published and is not being entered into a
similar competition.
3. Use good and correct English.
4. If there are conditions announced by the committee, either before, during, or after the
competition takes place, then the participant concerned is disqualified.
5. The work must be submitted in the PDF format with the file name = RESEARCH
PAPER_UIEC’23_NAME_TITLE OF THE RESEARCH PAPER
6. The research paper is uploaded on the g-form that will be given by the committee after
the technical meeting.
7. The participants must fill and upload the originality latter that can be downloaded in the
link: https://bit.ly/LetterOfOriginality
8. The file name of the letter must be: NAME_LATTEROFORIGINALITY

B. Technical Instructions for Writing Research Papers


a) General Writing
1) The manuscript is typed with 1.5 spacing on A4 size paper with Times New Roman font.
2) Margins rules: 4 cm from the left side, 3 cm from the right side, 4 cm from the top
border, and 3 cm from the bottom border.
3) Abstract is written 150-250 words.
4) The manuscript, starting from the Introduction to Conclusions and Suggestions, is written
in a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 pages.
5) The number of pages that do not follow the rules will be reduce the score.
6) The title of the written work should be typed using capital letters and boldface in the
middle position without being underlined.
7) Page numbering uses Latin numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) in the bottom center position.

E. Plagiarism Check
1. The plagiarism checking will use the Turnitin Application, with the following elements:
a. Exclude quotes off.
b. Exclude bibliography on.
c. Exclude sources off.
2. The specific plagiarism limit is 30%
3. The consequences when the participants exceed the plagiarism limit based on this elements:
31%-40% = - 5% of the total score
41%-50% = - 10% of the total score
51%-60% = - 15% of the total score
61%-70% = - 20% of total score
71%-80% = - 25% of total score
>80% = disqualification

SOLO SONG

A. Special Provisions

1. This competition is an international level event organized for high schools and equivalent
levels, as well as for the general public with a maximum age of 26 years old.
2. For participants from any region, the competition will be held online via individually
created video submissions.
3. Participants are required to perform one song of their choice and one compulsory song
based on the following conditions:

4. Videos must meet the following criteria:

1) Filmed from one camera angle with good lighting.


2) Participants must upload videos horizontally (landscape).
3) Participants must wear formal apparel when recording the video.
(NOTE: NO JEANS, SANDALS, SLIPPERS, SHORTS, T-SHIRTS)
4) Minimum video resolution is 480p and video format is in mp4 format.
5) Participants are required to sing live without any voice mixing or pre-recorded elements.
6) Time for video maximum 10 minutes.
7) The video must be suitable with the format:
(SOLOSONGUIEC23_NAME_MANDATORY SONG/OPTIONAL SONG).
8) Participants must submit their videos by the specified deadline.
9) Participants should send the video link to the committee.

NEWS CASTING

A. Specific rules

1. This competition is an International level held for public with maximum age of 26 years.
2. The participants should make a News Casting video based on the topic: Nusantara, The New
Capital City of Indonesia.
3. The news casting videos should following the criteria such as:
a. Filmed from one camera angle.
b. The Participants should upload the videos horizontally (landscape).
c. The participants should wear formal attire during video recording.
d. The participants are not allowed to edit the videos.
e. Time for the News Casting video is about 3-4 minutes (no additional time, additional
time will be deducted by 3 points) and video format is in mp4 format.
4. The participants should submit their videos to the g-form that provided by the committee with
the format: NEWSCASTINGUIEC23 _ NAME _ TOPIC OF NEWS CASTING The g-
form link will be sent after the technical meeting.
5. The participants should make a News Casting video using their self-composed script.
6. The technical Meeting will be held on October 29th 2023 is mandatory by all participants or
representatives.
7. The decisions of the committee and the jury cannot be contested.

STORY TELLING

A. Special Provisions

1. Story theme is ASIAN COUNTRY LEGEND.


2. This competition is an international level held for the public, maximum age of 26
years.
3. The participants have to follow all the rules that have been made by the
committee.
4. Videos Criteria:
a. The story that is told must be in accordance with the
theme.
b. Using English when performing.
c. Videos are sent with a minimum duration of 5 minutes and a maximum of
7 minutes and video format is in mp4 format.
d. Videos are not allowed to be edited.
e. Participants must upload videos horizontally (landscape).
f. Participants are encouraged to use attributes according to the story being
told.
g. Participants are not allowed to bring scripts/notes when performing.
h. The video is uploaded on the g-form that will be given by the committee
after the technical meeting and uses the format: STORY TELLING
UIEC’23_NAME_TITLE OF THE STORIES
i. Participants can only submit videos 1 time.
5. Participants send videos within the specified date limit, October 31th 2023.
6. Each participant is only allowed to submit one work that has never been entered in
a competition.
7. If there is cheating in the competition, the committee has the right to disqualify the
participant.
8. Next, the judges will evaluate the results of the video that has been sent.

SPEECH CONTEST

A. Special Provisions

1. Theme of speech: Quality Education as The Pillar of The Nation


2. The speech video must base on the theme given by the committee.
3. Videos must meet the following criteria:
a) Filmed from one camera angle with good lighting.
b) Participants must upload videos horizontally (landscape).
c) Participants must wear formal apparel when recording the video.
(NOTE: NO JEANS, SANDALS, SLIPPERS, SHORTS, T-SHIRTS)
d) Minimum video resolution is 480p and video format is in mp4 format.
e) Not allowed to edit videos.
f) Time for video speech is 5-7 minutes (no extra time, extra time will be deducted by
3 points).
g) The speech video must be suitable with the format:
SPEECH UIEC23_NAME_TITTLE OF THE SPEECH
4. Participants can only submit videos 1 TIME.
5. Participants must submit their work via the Google Form provided by the committee.
6. The work submission link will be sent after the technical meeting.
7. The video must be originally made by the participants and never been published before.
