INTRODUCTION. READING LESSONS 11 TO 14

The Gospel of John as has been in a very detailed way been taught in this IST, is a very
important and helpful for part of the gospel. Its uniqueness and the relationship with the synoptic
gospels is indeed a great work. Lesson eleven to Lesson fourteen has opened in me a great
insight about this gospel. Its emphasis on faith believing in Jesus as Christ is indeed the bottom
line of the Christian Faith. The apostle John having been a close ally of Jesus and an eye witness
of the crucification of Jesus being the author of the book as has been explained in these lessons
must have details from the eye witness account that the synoptic did not have.

The I Am’s in this gospel are very fundamental in as far as salvation is concerned. John 14.6,
when Jesus says that “I am the way, the truth and the life” brings the believer to a divine
assurance, that he is the way to the father, he is the truth that sets us free and the life of God
which connects us to eternal fellowship with the father.

The conferences in lesson eleven, which Jesus had with his disciples in preparation of his death
and resurrection, that of believers relationships, that of relationship with the world among others,
shows the close and lovely relationship that Jesus has with his disciples including us. Indeed,
Jesus who is the word is always there to explain and reveal to us the meaning of God’s word,
which we cannot be able to do with our own ability.

The concept of prayer in these four lessons is also very important in a believer’s life. It is evident
that Jesus was a prayerful person.

2 THE TRANSFORMATION

The primary purpose for me to do these studies is to have a personal growth spiritually, to have a
transformation through the word of God. Apostle John himself is actually shown as a person who
was himself transformed by the Gospel.

Jesus met him as a fisherman, Matthew 4: 21, he was transformed to a great disciple that we
know who is referred to as the disciple that Jesus loved, John 13:23. The emphasis on love in this
Gospel is both encouraging and transformative. The discourse that Jesus had with Nichodemus in

John chapter three has indeed transformed me. The fact that Nichodemus was a Pharisee, a group
that was opposed to Jesus teachings, and that Jesus welcomed and talked to him has greatly
transformed me in way that preaching should be preached even to them that reject it because it
has the power to transform them

In his farewell discourse, Jesus promised the holy spirit to his disciples, John 14 – 16. The truths
about the Holy Spirit are indeed an important core both in my life and ministry

(i) The holy spirit as a counselor John 14:16:

Allowing myself to be counseled of the Holy spirit has helped me to put into practice
the knowledge of the word of God

(ii) The Holy Spirit as a helper John 14:17 :

Jesus refers him as the spirit of truth. The Gospel is the truth about God. He helps me
to internalize the word which brings the internal transformation spiritually

(iii) The holy spirit as witness John 15:26

Jesus calls him the advocate who will be his witness. The Gospel is about witnessing
and indeed by the help of the holy spirit I am now a much stronger witness of the
Gospel, even beyond religious and geographical boundaries

Conclusively I say through the gospel of John, I have learnt a lot in terms of how
Jesus preached to different people and groups and the assurances that he gave that he
will always be with us to empower us in the work of ministry.

3. THE APPLICATION OF THE KNOWLEDGE IN MY MINISTRY

The intention of pursuing this course is to endeavor to be equipped so as to teach the truth. In a
world that is invaded by many false teachers, it is our responsibility as Gospel ministers to up our
efforts especially in the area of teaching. As Jesus told the Jesus in John 8:32 “You will know the
truth, and the truth will set you free” Many people, as I have realized in ministry, live in vast
spiritual and mental bondage. Spiritual and cultural lies occupy a great part of people’s lives. By
the knowledge I have acquired, I will by the help of the Holy Spirit do the following

I. Continue in engaging in a lifelong discipline of learning. As the world continue to advance

in knowledge and technology, it is my desire to also increase in the knowledge to be able to
reach as many people in ministry as possible
II. Expand and extend Bible study programs. Jesus the great teacher taught his disciples to be
teachers too. The Holy spirit also is a teacher, John 14:26 Training the found is very
important and I will do all I can to encourage the church to invest in teaching programs
III. Reach out to other ministers:

The apostles were doing their ministry in a very united model. In our day also, it is
imperative to engage the other ministers in preaching. I will continue to encourage inter-
denominational prayers and crusades, to reach out to many people with the gospel

IV. Focus on the youth

Majority of the people in my context who seem to be lost is the young generation. The
scripture has a lot of emphasis on the young people. Jesus also ministered in his youth and
so were many of his disciples. The cultic movement also target the youth.
I will apply the knowledge to reach out to the youth, train them also to do the work of
ministry and also encourage and give them hope in life. The gospel of John is a hope giving
part of scripture and as it has done to me, So I desire to see many other people receive and
get hope in their lives
