BE E3 ECON DEV FINALS PART 2

Test 3- Essay (55 points)

1. Based on your opinion or added research, is population good or bad for the
economic growth? Why or why not?
For me, it is bad because given the finite amount of land available, population
increase will eventually diminish the amount of resources available to each
individual, resulting in sickness, malnutrition, and war, per-child resources. As a
result, larger families must spread their resources more thinly in order to sustain
more children.
2. Would a recommend a policy favoring agricultural/rural sectors over urban
dwellers? Why?
Yes, in order for our farmers to be benefited. Because for me if we have a right
policy for our farmers it will help them survive in the long run. Just like for
example we shouldn’t buy palay in a very cheap price. It’s like you almost beg
them to give you the palay. So instead of buying it in a very affordable we should
atleast consider their effort of farming those palay.
3. The 4P program of the Philippine government is one of the real examples of
direct transfers approach to address poverty. Do you think this is a good
approach? Why or why not?
Yes, for me it is a great approach in a way that less fortunate individual will help
them sustain their living and also education for their children. Because one of the
objective of 4Ps program is to help those parents who cannot afford to send their
child to school. Not just that it also aims to provide basic health needs just like
vaccine, and other medical needs. It is beneficial to the poor in terms of
education because it influenced learners' behavior and attitudes toward learning.
The program has assisted learners in improving their low performance levels.
4. Among the topics discussed in class is about Child Labor. Give a specific
example of your own experience about Child Labor and why it should be
stopped.
I started working at the age of 10 as a vendor. I sell munchkin, pastellas and
other sweet foods that an elementary student can sell. And its not a hard job for
me but when I enter high school I start taking part time job as a manicure and
pedicure. I experienced that on of client get mad at me scold me in public. And
here I realized that working at such a young age should stop because children
should enjoy their young life. In my case I am not oblige to work in such a young
age, I just wanted to help my parents at that time. Parents should not oblige the
child to work because they are the one who brought the child in this world. Also
child labor has a negative impact on a child's social and mental development, as
well as their capacity to enjoy childhood and limit educational chances. Without
an education, children grow up without the skills they need to find job, increasing
the likelihood that they will one day send their own children to work.
