God Trains Young Jeremiah

And I replied, “I see a branch from an almond tree.”

And the Lord said, “That’s right, and it means that I am watching, and I will certainly
carry out all my plans.”

Then the Lord spoke to me again and asked, “What do you see now?”
And I replied, “I see a pot of boiling water, spilling from the north.”

“Yes,” the Lord said, “for terror from the north will boil out on the people of this land.
Levels of Prophecy
1. The Spirit of Prophecy (Revelation 19:10; 1 Corinthians 14:31)

And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I
am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship
God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

Then Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the group of prophets

Activation:

□ Form this Scripture (Ephesians 1:15-23) into a daily prayer for yourself
and for the key people in your life.
□ Write from this Scripture a “prophetic word from God” just for YOU!
□ Begin a daily “Private Garden” Journal in which you take selected
Scriptures and write them into prayers. Scriptures that “pop out” to you,
write into a prophetic word for you. This helps train your sensitivity; your
spiritual eyes and ears.

Ephesians 1:15-23 Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom

The Holy Spirit’s Role in Revelation
John 16:13
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all
truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He
will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

The church continues to function in prophecy

1. The Prophets in the First Century
a. Agabus prophesies of a famine throughout the land.

Acts 11:28: Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the
Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world,
which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.”=
b. In Acts 21:10-11: Agabus prophesies of Paul’s further persecution. “And as
we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from
Judea. When he had come to us, he took Paul's belt, bound his own hands
and feet, and said, "Thus says the Holy Spirit, 'So shall the Jews at
Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of
the Gentiles.' "
c. Revelation 1- 22 John is cast onto the Isle of Patmos and receives a
prophetic word from Jesus.
d. Philip’s daughters prophesied: Acts 21:8-9: “On the next day we who were
Paul's companions departed and came to Caesarea, and entered the house
of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him. Now
this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied.”

The Purpose of Prophecy

1 Corinthians 14:3
But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
Edification: To strengthen or build up
Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification,
that it may impart grace to the hearers.
Exhortation: To encourage somebody strongly.
1Thessalonians 5:14
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold
the weak, be patient with all.
Acts 15:32
Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren
with many words.
3. Comfort: relief from pain or anxiety or “to strengthen.”

comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are
in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Prophecy can release gifts and can activate callings
1 Timothy 4:14 (NKJV)

Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying
on of the hands of the eldership.
Samuel anoints David as King over Israel through a prophetic word.

1 Samuel 16:11-13 (NKJV)

the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”
And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.”

And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”

Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the

Prophetic anointing releases understanding of the word
1 Corinthians 13 (NKJV)

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become
sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am
nothing.
Daniel 9:2 (NKJV)

in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years
specified by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish
seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
Prophecy Can Bring Direction as to What One Should Do
1. Samuel gives Saul a prophetic word and then tells him this in 1 Samuel 10:7
“And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is
with you”

Walking in Prophecy can Change Your life

1. 1 Samuel 10:6
Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be
turned into another man.
2. 1 Samuel 10:9
So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him another heart;
and all those signs came to pass that day
1 Samuel 10:6-11

the prophets, that the people said to one another, “What is this that has come upon the son of
Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”

Prophecy can Give you strategy for spiritual warfare and Prayer
1 Timothy 1:18 (NKJV)

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made
concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare

Visions
1. Internal Visions
There were times when Daniel had visions at night internally or in his mind.
Daniel 4:5 “I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts on my bed and the
visions of my head troubled me.”

2. External Visions
a. Elisha’s servant’s eyes were opened to see external vision.

2 Kings 6:17
And Elisha prayed, and said, "Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." Then the
Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was
full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Activation:

□ Pray this (or put into your own words): “Lord, I receive your anointing. I have
such a hunger to walk with You, so I open my heart to You and ask You to work
through me by your Spirit, in prophetic words, seeing in the Spirit, hearing Your
voice and flowing in words of knowledge. I want to fulfill Your calling on my life.
Thank you, Lord Jesus!

Activation:

□ Ask the Lord to show you something by revelation (dream, vision, or encounter).
□ Ask the Lord for the meaning if you receive a metaphorical message.
□ Ask the Lord what you should do with this revelation (keep it in prayer, share it
with someone, or wait for further revelation)
