CHILD TRAFFICKING
Child trafficking is another serious problem affecting children all over the world. It is the action of
illegally procuring and relocating children for the purposes of forced labour or a sex worker. Child trafficking
has become a worldwide concern in the past few years because of the high rate at which children are being
introduced into this evil practice.
Nigeria is not left out to practice. Why people would give birth to a child only to allow him or her to be
traded for forced labour? It is unbelievable that many children are trafficked within the country and forced into
a life of exploitation and abuse. These children are denied childhood experience as well as education. Some
children are deceived into going into forced labour or prostitution. Traffickers prey on their innocence,
promising them Heaven and earth.
The major cause of child trafficking is poverty especially in areas struck by natural disasters. Lack of
education and awareness on the part of parents also lead to child trafficking.
This situation urgently needs attention from our government so that the safety and protection of our
future leaders can be guaranteed.
