1. Cikgu Norita paid her neighbour, Auntie Sue, a monthly sum of RM500 to care for
Nur Chaya, her two year old daughter, while she was at work. Cikgu Norita was
selected from her school to attend a workshop concerning the recent blueprint on the
education policy in Bangkok for seven days. Cikgu Norita promised to pay Auntie
Sue an additional sum of RM300 to look after Nur Chaya while she was in Bangkok.
When Cikgu Norita returned, she refused to pay the sum promised. Advise Auntie
Sue whether she could enforce the promise.

2. Last Friday, Nur Jannah found Puan Kasih’s bag which contained some important
documents. On Monday morning, Nur Jannah returned the bag to Puan Kasih. Puan
Kasih was so happy that she promised to pay Nur Jannah RM 500 by the end of the
week. Decide whether Nur Jannah has any right to sue Puan Kasih, should she fail to
pay her the promised sum of RM 500.

4. Uncle Krishnan wants to give his land to his son, Prem, for his graduation. Prem is
not required to pay Uncle Krishnan any money. However, Uncle Krishnan is not sure
if the transaction he is about to do is valid. Advise Uncle Krishnan.

5. Ahmad was saved from drowning by his jobless cousin, Malik. He promised Malik
that he would hire him as a training executive in his company. It has been a year
since the incident and Malik has not received any letter of offer from Ahmad. Advise
Malik whether he is entitled to claim the promise from Ahmad.

6. Simon, an owner of a company, hired Bala as a security guard for the company.
There was a spate of robberies going on at the vicinity recently. Simon informed Bala
that he will increase his salary to RM 500 if he is extra alert and becomes his
bodyguard since he goes home late at night. Bala agreed.

Simon was walking home one night when he was confronted by a group of men who
wanted to rob him. He called out to Bala to rescue him. Bala rushed to the scene and
drove off the assailants. Unfortunately, when Bala inquired about the salary
increment of RM 500, Simon refused to fulfil his promise. With reference to relevant
authorities, advise Bala whether he can enforce the promise.
