The reason for me applying for this post is that I believe that I need to improve my

communication skills and be more confident in myself and my abilities as these

qualities will benefit me greatly in the future. In order to accomplish this I need to take
on more responsibilities and challenge myself by doing things that I wouldn’t normally
be brave enough to do such as taking the role of Head Student. During these past
few months in the sixth form, I have been helping out year 7 students as a literacy
prefect and I have participated in parents' evenings as well as open evenings to
interact with other people and improve my communication skills. These experiences
have helped me speak more clearly.

I moved to the UK very recently around two years ago in year 10. During my time in
secondary school, I have also participated in open days as well as celebration
evenings and this has helped me to be more familiar with and adapt to the school
environment in the UK as well as improved my sense of responsibility, and helped
me develop my interpersonal skills as I was reluctant to approach and interact with
people. Overall this experience helped me develop a nice relationship with people in
my year group and abled me to work confidently within a group.

Outside of school, I have helped teach primary school students to play the piano
back in Turkey as I have been playing piano for a long time and am currently a grade
7 student. The piano had always been a passion of mine and being able to teach it to
others allowed me to share my interest with others and influence them. This has also
helped me develop leadership skills as I was able to motivate and direct others and
has helped me to improve my understanding of others and my ability to adapt to
others and communicate on a level that all can understand. Overall this has allowed
you to begin taking steps toward my goals but I still believe that this position is crucial
to reaching them.

Other than this I have also started a petition to the council for the addition of traffic
suppliers to a road in front of my brother’s school in which there have been several
accidents and was able to get them to build speed humps with the help of the parents
of the students in the school. This has helped me to be able to express my ideas
clearly and confidently in speech as well as helping me take the initiative by using my
own judgment to make decisions and be proactive in putting forward ideas or
solutions.

When I first started Valentines High I realised that students have trouble finding their
way to their classes and being on time for their classes for their first couple weeks. I
believe we can overcome this issue by putting up signs in certain areas of the school
or arranging other students such as internal students to accompany new students
during lunches and breaks during the first three days in order to help them familiarise
themselves with the school area. This would also help them socialize with other
students and build friendships from which they can benefit if they have any troubles
in the future.
