ACCORDING TO TOYOTA, THERE ARE ONLY 7 MUDA
OR WASTE IN PRODUCTION
Why Seven Wastes?
Mr. Ohno wanted to get workers
involved in recognizing waste in
order to eliminate production
MUDA through Kaizen.

So, teach team-members to

recognize their version of the 7
Wastes, then teach them how to
use kaizen techniques to eliminate
waste in their work.

So, what about the “So-Called” 8th
Waste, which no one can agree on:

? Talent?
? Underutilization?
? People?????????
This type of waste is not observable by a Production
Workers.
Further, underutilization of people’s knowledge, talent,
skill, etc. is a form of Management Muda! according to
Mr. Ohno:

“It is Management's responsibility to identify

excess manpower and utilize it effectively.”
