IRISH STEW RECIPE

It is a typical traditional Irish recipe, which is prepared in Irish homes, to combat the cold in the
winter.

To prepare this dish we will need:

• 900 grams of lamb or beef to stew (choose according to preference)

• 450 grams of chopped onion
• 5 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
• Salt and ground black pepper to taste
• 900 grams of peeled potatoes
• large peeled carrots
• 375 ml. or 1½ cups of water
• Fresh parsley to garnish
• Oven temperature: 150°C/Gas2

To prepare it we must:

1.Place a layer of onions, previously cut into feathers, on the bottom of a thick-bottomed
saucepan, suitable for placing in the oven. Add oil so that during cooking the ingredients do not
stick to the bottom of the saucepan.
2.Place the meat on top and sprinkle with a good amount of parsley and a smaller amount of
thyme, you can add other spices if you prefer. Then, season the meat with salt and pepper.

3.Cut the potatoes and carrots into not very large pieces and layer them with the rest of the
onions.

4.Spray each layer with salt and pepper and finish with a layer of aromatic herbs.
5.Add half the water and bring it to a boil.

6.Cook over low heat, it is recommended, for 2½ to 3 hours. It can be done in the oven, but
always keeping in mind that a low heat is needed. Add more water during the cooking process if
the stew is becoming too dry.

7.To serve the dish you can accompany it with a piece of soda bread (traditional Irish bread)
